2 Thessalonians 3:14,15
“Take note of those who refuse to obey what we say in this letter. Stay away from them so they will be ashamed. 15 Don’t think of them as enemies, but warn them as you would a brother or sister.“

Do you note Paul’s approach to those members of the faith who were in the wrong? He gave three guidelines for dealing wIth them:
1. Don’t remain in fellowship with them.
2. Don’t treat them as enemies.
3. Rather warn them of the consequences of disobedience.
We are to distance ourselves from such confused, struggling believers, waiting for them to recognize the conduct they should be taking. We should step back and pray for their confusion to clear.

There are many believers today who become confused with how they should conduct themselves or what they should be spending their time doing. We must lovingly strive to step back gently and allow them to come to the proper conduct in their lives. Sometimes wisdom will guide us to minister with silence and love for those who wander into extreme doctrinal positions. Oh, they aren’t living in rebellion to God! Instead they are confused about what their position should be in our present day. We are to give them room to commune and recognize the Spirit’s working in their lives, and stand by in support through prayer and love.

As we move through our own maturing process, there will be many believers who get off track in how they see their role in life to be or what is doctrinally obedient. There were several paths that the saints of that day were taking. Some were attempting to follow the legalism of the Jewish faith and ignoring the message of Christ. Others were rejecting any of those past beliefs totally. Paul was admonishing the saints to stand by in loving support for these confused saints while upholding them in prayer and also seeking to warn them of Christ’s message to “remain in the truth.” We all can get off track from time to time, so love is the key.

SO GO WITH GOD, and uphold other believers who may be struggling with how to best please and follow the Lord in their lives. Examine yourself also, lest you also find yourself sliding onto slippery ground. Keep the truth of Scripture as your standard bearer and live humbly and lovingly before others.

2 Thessalonians 3:13
“Dear brothers and sisters, never get tired of doing good.”

The Apostle Paul found it important to encourage the early saints to continue to serve the Lord and each other regardless of what some saints were failing to do. It is important for each of us to faithfully serve our Savior and one another. We must remember that we belong to each other and what we do affects the rest of the believers in our lives.

Almost every culture says something vital about laziness. The Book of Romans says, “By doing nothing, men learn to do evil.” Isaac Watts wrote this: “Satan finds some mischief still, for idle hands to do.” Jewish rabbis taught "He who does not teach his son a trade, teaches him to be a thief.” Paul was encouraging the saints here to “Settle down, and get back to work.” You see, as the great Bible commentator Warren Weirsbe said, “Work is the great antidote to unbalanced speculation and unthinking activity.”

In Thessalonica, some of the saints were stopping to wait on the Lord’s return. Rather than reminding, encouraging, and telling others of Christ’s soon return, they were, as the saying goes, “Sitting on the premises, rather than standing on the promises.” In this topsy-turvy world, we have many people to speak to regarding the soon return of our loving Savior and Lord, and their need to be ready for His return. Redeem the time, as time only moves forward. You can't reverse time. Ephesians 5:17 says, "Redeeming the time, because the days are evil."

SO GO WITH GOD, and don’t forget to "redeem the time." As the song says so well, “People get ready, Jesus is coming soon.” This is a great song by Crystal Lewis and is a reminder of His soon return. Let’s live with this thought in mind and not lose sight of mission that we are called to live out.

2 Thessalonians 3:10, 11
“Even while we were with you, we gave you this command: 'Those unwilling to work will not get to eat.' 11 Yet we hear that some of you are living idle lives, refusing to work and meddling in other people’s business.”

Our purpose in life is to serve others, live for Christ, and be an active testimony to others of God's grace, mercy, and salvation. Our obedience to this command is demonstrated through us being responsibly productive while being sensitive to eternal matters in all facets of our spiritual journey. The best way for us to demonstrate to others the love of Christ is to live unselfish lives just as He did.

From the very beginning, Adam served others by tending the garden. The trees and plants were being served by his efforts. Eve was also being served by his caring for the trees and picking the fruit. The animals of the garden were also being served. Every part of creation was benefited through Adam’s service.

God knows that when we are living lives of productivity that we are most fulfilled. When we are serving others in any capacity we will find ourselves also being just as enriched as they are! Never forget that selfless sacrifice provides the greatest benefit for everyone and everything on earth.
As the quaint saying best instructs us, “Idle hands are the devil’s workshop.” Leading productive lives brings the greatest joy to everyone. By failing to be productive, we become a menace to those in our lives. Remember ~~ "The greatest ability is availability.”

SO GO WITH GOD, and purpose to serve others in your life. Give of your talents to all of those in your life, for you will never be disappointed with the outcome. To be kind is to respond with sensitivity and human warmth to the hopes and needs of others. Even the briefest touch of kindness can lighten a heavy heart. Kindness can change the lives of people.

2 Thessalonians 3:8, 9
“We never accepted food from anyone without paying for it. We worked hard day and night so we would not be a burden to any of you. 9 We certainly had the right to ask you to feed us, but we wanted to give you an example to follow.“

What sort of example was Paul talking about? It was to work hard, live faithfully, remain responsible, carry your own weight, and live with integrity in such a way as to be able to share the good news of Christ’s saving gift to the unsaved.

It is extremely important to set an example of faithfulness as we walk this earth to the extent that we live it out in such a way that the message of Christ crucified is regarded in the greatest way and that our messaging is believable by our own godly conduct. We are to live our life of hard work as an independent, faithful messenger of the King of Kings. Our message must be carried out to our world with faithful regard toward an example of integrity.

There are many people today who abuse their place of Christian living. How do they do this? One way is by selectively picking out Scripture to believe and ignoring other hard facts that are less comfortable in God's word such as the call for holy living or recognizing the justice of God. We are encouraged in the Scriptures to live out our lives in a consistent manner. It is this consistent example that sets the tone for the example Christ set in His ministry life. Is this easy? No, of course not. It requires prayerful diligence in a world that has standards spiraling downward and away from God's unchangeable standards.

Our enemy, the devil, strives to diminish the importance of our message of “salvation that is free, limitless and a supernatural gift of God.” We must be careful to not impede this message of Christ, for “it is the power of God unto salvation.” Many would attempt to harm its supernatural gifting by requiring others to control this limitless gift. Ahh, but Christ set the example for love and truth without condition, open to all who would simply receive His free gift of salvation. Love others as Christ loves.

SO GO WITH GOD! Purpose to live out this example of our Savior to the world about unlimited forgiveness and cleansing for all who will receive His gift of salvation. Set the example of a free, conditionless gift of eternal life that Christ bore for you and me. Pass it on!

2 Thessalonians 3:6, 7
“And now, dear brothers and sisters, we give you this command in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ: Stay away from all believers who live idle lives and who don’t follow the tradition they received from us. 7 For you know that you ought to imitate us. We were not idle when we were with you.“

Paul is challenging the saints to keep busy! First, be busy making a living and providing for their own family needs. Secondly, be using excess time to minister to others in using their spiritual gift.

Unfortunately, during this time in the early church, many immature saints were idly letting other saints provide food and daily provisions for them, thus excusing themselves from their own daily responsibilities or duties under the guise of waiting for Christ’s return. Here they are being challenged to provide for their own physical needs, and also to minister to the spiritual or physical needs of others who may be unable to care for themselves. These newly saved saints had not yet begun to determine what ministry gift they were called to do in order to be empowered by the Spirit to minister to the body of Christ. This challenge by the Apostle Paul to the saints was meant to encourage them to determine the spiritual gift that they had been given, and then develop that gift in order to enrich the work of the Lord.

Evidently, many of the saints in Thessalonica were idly “sitting on the premises rather than walking in the promises of God.” This still applies to us today! Each believer is gifted with a spiritual gift upon salvation when the Holy Spirit begins His indwelling presence. We are called to be responsible to minister that gift provided by the Spirit within His body of believers. We should seek to know just what that gift is and then busy ourselves with fulfilling its use within the body of believers. The Spirit's goal is to help us edify and build each other up.

My experience is that when we are drawn to a need in the body, that is due to the fact that we should be preparing to meet that need with the gift that the Spirit has instilled in us. Usually God doesn’t burden us with something we are not able to participate in. For instance, if we are blind he doesn’t call us to drive a car unless he heals our eyes! We should look about the ministry of His church and determine what is the role we should take on in order to enrich that work. If you're a good cook with the gift of hospitality, look for ways to use that gift to enrich the ministry. If you are a good organizer determine what ways that your gift of administration can further His work. Often, if you see a need or lack in your church, it is because the Holy Spirit is gently wooing you to a mission to fulfill that exact need with your spiritual gift.

I remember well a dear past saint in our church with whom most of her energy was taken up with the care of her husband. When the Lord saw fit to take him home to Heaven, she came to me and asked, “What should I do with all of my time now?” I guided her to look about the ministry with her gift of helps and ask God to guide her to a new mission in life. She was made aware of the need the church had for flowers around the side and the front of the church, so she began to plant roses and tend to their care. For many years, she joyed in this use of her gift but also in decorating our Fellowship Hall bulletin boards. Many in our church were blessed for years by the use of her talents which God augmented through her spiritual gift of helps. Recently, another family in our church was enlightened to a retiring teacher and her need to pass on many of her teaching resources. They discussed the needs we had in our children's ministry that could certainly enjoy the use of her supplies. They went to her home and delivered many of those supplies to our children’s ministry staff. This family's involvement has already begun to be a blessing to the children here at Lakeside!

SO GO WITH GOD, and look around for ministry needs. Seek some area that you may be spiritually gifted with to further develop to meet those needs. Many times when we are enlightened to a need, that is God’s way of guiding us to a way that we should participate in enriching the body of believers. The Lord has gifted us upon salvation with ministry roles in order to build up the saints in the body of Christ. So be on the lookout for His guidance in your life to be a blessing in His eternal plan!

Pastor Ben's Corner 9/9/26

2 Thessalonians 3:4, 5
“And we are confident in the Lord that you are doing and will continue to do the things we commanded you. 5 May the Lord lead your hearts into a full understanding and expression of the love of God and the patient endurance that comes from Christ.”

Paul had confidence that his readers in the early church would not yield to Satan, but rather would allow the Lord to make them strong and confident in God. This applies also to us today. You see, Christ is the captain of our salvation, we are His soldiers in a battle against the evils of our day. As believers, we have a higher calling than present day earthly soldiers. It’s an eternal calling to pass on His saving eternal truth to all who will listen. Our motives should be obedience to our loving Savior and living with the expectation of His imminent return. This has been the continual theme of these two letters we have studied to the church of Thessalonica that relates also to our everyday life.

As a result of our loving Savior’s gift of eternal life, we are drawn by the indwelling Holy Spirit to surrender and dedicate ourselves to the spiritual journey thst He has called each of us to follow. The Spirit encourages and draws us to walk in these truths, to proclaim its message of salvation to truth seekers, to faithfully practice its calling on our lives, and finally to protect its message from being harmed by false teachers. As we allow the Lord to lead our hearts and minds through the Spirit's presence, we will faithfully tell others of this great Good News.

SO GO WITH GOD, and faithfully pass on its powerful truth to those who come into your pathway each day. We are promised that it will never fail to transform lives or empower those who receive its truth. I have noticed that the most peaceful, patient, and contented people are those who live in expectation of Christ’s return. So live out this expectation each and everyday, for He may return today.

2 Thessalonians 3:2, 3
“Pray, too, that we will be rescued from wicked and evil people, for not everyone is a believer. 3 But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one.“

A story was told that illustrated the best way to deal with criticism. A man and his son in need of money decided to sell their donkey at the marketplace. The townspeople shook their heads in disgust that the man would make his son walk while he rode the donkey. After hearing the criticism, the man quickly dismounted, and his son got on in his place. As they walked a little farther, they again heard the townspeople murmur, “How could that son be so disrespectful as to make his father walk while he rides the donkey?” The man then joined his son astride the donkey, only to hear the townspeople down the road say, “How cruel of those two to ride that poor little donkey!” In response, both father and son dismounted the donkey and walked farther, amidst criticism that they were fools for failing to utilize their donkey. At last, in desperation, the father and son picked the donkey up, and carried it the rest of the way!

If you try to defend your faith or your reason for trusting Christ to unbelievers, you will find yourself carrying a heavy burden. Instead, you should do what Paul learned to do. Place your defense directly to our Lord Jesus Christ. Tell the scoffers and critics of your trust in the Savior because of what He has done and share His faithfulness in your life. Then faithfully listen to His voice as you read the Bible, and then dedicate yourself to walking in His ways. Then, as Paul says in verse 3b, “he will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one.”

SO GO WITH GOD! Envelop yourself in His teachings. Live in obedience to Him each day and give Him the glory, then give the rest of your concerns and worries to Him.

Pastor Ben's Corner 9/7/26

2 Thessalonians 3:1
“Finally, dear brothers and sisters, we ask you to pray for us. Pray that the Lord’s message will spread rapidly and be honored wherever it goes, just as when it came to you.“

As we learn more about God’s love for us and believe in the ttuth of Hod's Word, we find ourselves living to spread the truth of the Gospel to any who will want to listen. Since it amazingly changes us from the inside out, we naturally begin to share our new lifestyle with others, for it is “the power of God unto salvation.” As Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is alive, and powerful, it is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between joint and marrow, it exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.” As we practice this truth and pray for the ministry of the truth, God’s Word will have freedom to run and accomplish Hs purposes in the world. Paul experienced when he shared this Gospel with the unbelieving Gentiles as in Acts 13:48,49. There it says “When the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of the Lord.”

We must not forget our purpose is to expose His truth to our world and allow the Spirit to sustain its work to all who will receive it. After all, the very world we live in today began with God’s words, “He spoke it into existence.” Our task is to, as the saying goes, “feed the sheep, not entertain the goats.” You see, when we share the Words of God with our world it becomes “the power of God unto salvation.” When we share its matchless truth with others then God gets the glory, and then the sheep feed on its eternal truth, and all will flock together in love, and with a single purpose to follow the Shepherd of love, Jesus Christ.

There will always be opposition to the Word and the work of God. This is why Paul requested for the believers to pray as they all broadcasted this truth. Satan strives to use evil unbelieving people to bring harm, and to oppose this powerful word of salvation. Satan enjoys using these unbelievers and scoffers to cause the seed of salvation to be blown onto infertile soil (hardened hearts).

Remember, my dear ones, Jesus is coming soon. Here, then, are the four great responsibilities for us to fulfill:
* believe the truth,
* guard the truth,
* practice the truth, and
* share the truth.
If we fulfill these duties, we will experience joy and power in our lives, and see growth and blessing in His holy church.

SO GO WITH GOD! Faithfully spread the seed of salvation and let Him get the increase. 1 John 2:28 says it so well, “And now, dear children, remain in fellowship with Christ so that when he returns, you will be full of courage and not shrink back from him in shame.“
