As families fracture, people are living longer and are more likely to find themselves without close relatives or friends at the end of their lives.

Good morning Mount Carmel family! I’m often guilty of preaching that you should be doing something in the kingdom or for the kingdom. Typically I will exhort you to ask God what it is that He has for you to do. I read something this morning from AW Tozer that I believe is incredibly helpful for working through what the “works” you are doing in the kingdom look like for each of us individually.

“Working for Christ has today been accepted as the ultimate test of godliness among all but a few evangelical Christians. Christ has become a project to be promoted or a cause to be served instead of a Lord to be obeyed. Thousands of mistaken persons seek to do for Christ whatever their fancy suggests should be done, and in whatever way they think best. The what and the how of Christian service can only originate in the sovereign will of our Lord, but the busy beavers among us ignore this fact and think up their own schemes. The result is an army of men who run without being sent and speak without being commanded.

To avoid the snare of unauthorized substitution I recommend a careful and prayerful study of the Lordship of Christ and the discipleship of the believer.”

I think this sentence is the focus of that paragraph.

“The what and the how of Christian service can only originate in the sovereign will of our Lord.”

📚🙏 Back to School Prayer 🙏📚

This Monday, August 11, 2025, our kids head back to school! I see you guys out at Belmont (who started last Wednesday) too, and apologize for our tardiness. We’re praying for everyone there also.

As a church family, let’s commit to covering them in prayer—for safety, wisdom, godly friendships, and a year filled with growth in both knowledge and faith.

Let’s also remember to pray for teachers, administrators, bus drivers, and school staff as they pour into the next generation.

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” – Proverbs 9:10
