Jesus calls us to a hidden life of faith rather than spiritual performance for human recognition. In Matthew 6:16-18, He teaches about fasting not for show but in secret before God. The danger lies in transforming God-directed disciplines into people-directed performances. When our service goes unnoticed and we feel an ache for recognition, it reveals who our real audience has been. True spiritual life is lived before the Father who sees in secret and rewards accordingly. The goal isn't to impress God but to genuinely connect with Him, setting aside comforts that have dulled our hunger for His presence.
