People often give up on each other too quickly. Not everyone has the time or energy to get deeply involved in someone else’s life, but we still form opinions about others’ struggles without truly understanding their journeys. We forget that real change takes time, and sometimes, it’s the small victories that matter most.

For example, think about someone who is stuck in a job they don’t enjoy or struggling to make ends meet. It’s easy to judge them based on what we see. But what if they are taking night classes to improve their skills? What if they are putting in extra hours to save for a better opportunity? Those small efforts show their dedication and desire for change, and they deserve our recognition.

Now, let’s consider someone who appears to have everything figured out. They might have a stable job and a nice home, but they could still feel lonely and disconnected. It’s tempting to think their life is perfect just because of how it looks from the outside. However, beneath that polished surface, they might be dealing with feelings of isolation. They may want to reach out to friends but find it hard to connect. This reminds us that even those who seem successful can be facing their own challenges.

Next, let’s talk about relationships. Someone going through a tough divorce or trying to rebuild their relationship with their children might seem like they’re failing at family life. But the effort they put into healing and reconnecting is what truly counts. They might be attending counseling or having open conversations with their kids. These actions may not bring immediate changes, but they are vital steps toward healthier family dynamics.

In the book of Ecclesiastes, we are reminded, “To everything, there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1). Change doesn’t happen overnight; it unfolds in its own time. Philippians 1:6 from the New Testament also encourages us with the words, “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” This reminds us that each small step is part of a bigger journey, often unseen but deeply significant.

Personal growth is usually a quiet process. Changes in character, discipline, and integrity take time to develop. Just because we don’t see them right away doesn’t mean they aren’t happening.

Let’s commit to being kinder and more patient with one another. Instead of jumping to conclusions based on appearances, let’s take the time to understand what someone is really going through. By showing genuine interest and asking thoughtful questions, we can learn the stories behind their struggles and small victories. This simple act can make a huge difference.

When we connect on a deeper level, we can better support those around us. Every little step forward counts! By creating an environment of empathy and understanding, we empower each other to grow and thrive. Remember, change is a journey. When we take the time to see what’s really happening, we can cheer each other on in meaningful ways!

I'm amazed when I think about my life - the places I've been, the people I've met, the classes I've taught, and the places I've preached. All life-changing experiences that have shaped me into the person I am today. My life is like a book with many chapters of many stories detailing how I lived, good or bad, it's all me, and there is still more to come. I've been through some tough times recently, but my faith has become more robust and refined. Enduring these challenges has been a gift, and it's given me the ability to face anything that comes my way.

Today, I want to share some universal lessons that we may consider valuable relating to enduring challenging times.

1. Hang In There: Enduring hard times can build resilience. When we face challenges, we learn to adapt and overcome them, which makes our strength and helps us meet future challenges more confidently.

2. Appreciating The Good and The Bad: Hard times can help us appreciate the good times. When life gets hard, we tend to appreciate the good things more, and that appreciation drives us to manage our lives better.

3. Understand How Others Feel: Enduring hard times can make us more empathetic towards others. We can relate to others going through similar situations, which can help us be more understanding and supportive towards one another.

4. Personal Growth: Hard times can catalyze personal growth. When facing challenges, we must confront our weaknesses and improve ourselves; this is what makes us better.

5. Getting Stronger: Enduring hard times can make us stronger. We become stronger and more capable when facing and overcoming challenges, which can help us meet future challenges with more strength and determination.

Enduring hard times may seem like a burden, but it can be beneficial in becoming a better person. It can build resilience, help us appreciate the good times, make us more empathetic towards others, catalyze personal growth, and strengthen us. So, the next time you face a difficult situation, remember that Dr. Ross said, "There is beauty in the change that comes out of it."
