Happy Anniversary Father Don!

Today, we congratulate Father Don Piraro on the 59th anniversary of his priestly ministry. Father Piraro was ordained on June 3, 1967. He served as the first director of Saint Charles Center when it opened in 1995. Father Piraro lives in residence at Villa Maria Retirement Center, Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Father Piraro served as a Priest for the Diocese of Lafayette from 1967 to 1980. He continued his priesthood for the Diocese of Lake Charles after it was formed in 1980. Church parishes where Father Piraro served include:
• In the Diocese of Lafayette — Church of the Assumption in Franklin; and Pastor of Our Lady of Wisdom Chapel and the Catholic Student Center at USL (now UL, Lafayette)
• In the Diocese of Lake Charles — Saint Margaret of Scotland, Our Lady of Good Counsel, and Our Lady Queen of Heaven, all in Lake Charles; Saint Theodore in Moss Bluff; and Saint Pius X in Ragley

"The priest is not his own. He is a man who must pour himself out daily. Hope is what fills him again when he feels empty”. — Venerable Fulton J. Sheen

PRAYER FOR PRIESTS
Gracious and loving God, we thank your for the gift of our priests. Through them, we experience your presence in the sacraments.

Help our priests to be strong in their vocation. Set their souls on fire with love for your people. Grant them the wisdom, understanding, and strength they need to follow in the footsteps of Jesus.

Inspire our priests with the vision of your Kingdom. Give them the words they need to spread the Gospel. Allow them to experience joy in their ministry. Help them to become instruments of your divine grace.

We ask this through Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns as our Eternal Priest. Amen

WHY MAKE A HOLY HOUR?
By Venerable Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen

Here are ten reasons.

1. It is time spent in the presence of Our Lord Himself. If faith is alive, no further reason is needed….

2. In our busy lives, it takes considerable time to shake off the “noonday devils,” the worldly cares, that cling to our souls like dust….

3. Our Lord asked for it. “Had you no strength, then, to watch with me even for an hour?”….

4. The Holy Hour keeps a balance between the spiritual and the practical….

5. The Holy Hour will make us practice what we preach….

6. The Holy Hour helps us make reparation for the sins of the world and for our own sins. When the Sacred Heart appeared to St. Margaret Mary, it was His Heart, and not His head, that was crowned with thorns. It was Love that was hurt. Black Masses, sacrilegious communions, scandals, militant atheism—who will make up for them?….

7. It reduces our liability to temptation and weakness. Presenting ourselves before Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament is like putting a tubercular patient in good air and sunlight. The virus of our sins cannot long exist in the face of the Light of the world….

8. The Holy Hour is a personal prayer….

9. Meditation keeps us from seeking an external escape from our worries and miseries….

10. Finally, the Holy Hour is necessary for the Church…. To abide with Christ is spiritual fellowship, as He insisted on the solemn and sacred night of the Last Supper, the moment He chose to give us the Eucharist: “You have only to live on in me, and I will live on in you” (John 15:4). He wants us in His dwelling: “That you, too, may be where I am” (John 14:3).

“Come and see a man!”
Sister Mrija Hope of the Religious Sisters of Mercy of Alma Michigan presents the Church’s teaching on Evangelization at the Women’s DEEP Retreat in April.

Here’s what retreatants are saying about D.E.E.P.

D.E.E.P. is an acronym for Discipleship, Eucharist, Evangelization, and Prayer. This retreat was developed to help Catholics grow "Deeper" in their faith, bringing them closer in relationship with Jesus Christ. The retreat builds upon these four pillars of Discipleship, Eucharist, Evangelization and Prayer and is presented by Catholic Priests and Deacons, with support provided by Catholic laity. DEEP is sponsored by Saint Charles Center and is held exclusively at Saint Charles Center.
The next retreat will be for Women on November 11-14, 2026.
