We love Camp Lakewood, Camp Adventure, and Epworth Forest and are glad to see this good news!
Camp Lakewood received a massive blessing just a few weeks ago!
The Indiana Conference of The United Methodist Church has received a $19,657,500 grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. through its Capital Project Initiative for Residential Youth Camps.
The grant will be divided among the Indiana Conference camps as follows:
Camp Lakewood - $4,820,000
Camp Adventure - $2,410,500
Epworth Forest - $10,000,000
Camp Indicoso - $2,427,000
"We are so excited to receive this generational gift and are looking forward to the impact this will have on students in Indiana,” said Nick Yarde, Director of Outdoor Ministries.
The grant is one of 40 implementation grants being awarded through phase 3 of the Lilly Endowment initiative, which aims to help Indiana residential youth camps improve the overall camp experience and outcomes for youth through new, enhanced and expanded facilities integral to quality youth camp programming. The latest grants, which were competitive, are providing partial support for large-scale capital projects.
This grant is in addition to a Lilly Endowment grant of $6.5 million made in December 2025 through an earlier round of funding in the Capital Project Initiative for Residential Youth Camp.
The Indiana Conference’s seven campsites are located throughout the state, each with its own unique activities, but they all share one thing in common: an intentional setting to get away from daily distractions and engage in life-changing growth.
About Lilly Endowment
Lilly Endowment Inc. is an Indianapolis-based private foundation created in 1937 by J.K. Lilly, Sr. and his sons Eli and J.K. Jr. through gifts of stock in their pharmaceutical business, Eli Lilly and Company. Although the gifts of stock remain a financial bedrock of the Endowment, it is a separate entity from the company, with a distinct governing board, staff and location. In keeping with the founders’ wishes, the Endowment supports the causes of community development, education and religion. The Endowment funds programs throughout the United States, especially in the field of religion, and maintains a special commitment to its founders’ hometown, Indianapolis, and home state, Indiana.
