READINGS FROM THE WORD

John 4:5-14
So He came to a city of Samaria which is called Sychar, near the plot of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied from His journey, sat thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour. A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.” For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food. Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans. Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.” The woman said to Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do You get that living water? Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?” Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”

Revelation 7:17, 21:1-6, 22:1-2, 17
The Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes…
Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.” And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to those who thirst…
And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations...
And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let those who hear say, “Come!” And let those who thirst come. Whoever desires, let them take the water of life freely.

Apocalypse Revealed 384, 932
"And lead them to living fountains of waters." This symbolically means, to lead people by the truths in the Word to conjunction with the Lord. Since a living fountain of waters symbolizes the Lord and also the Word, and waters symbolize truths, and because when Divine truths in the Word are applied to life, which happens when we live in accordance with them, they bring about a conjunction with the Lord, therefore to lead people to living fountains of waters means, symbolically, to lead them by the truths in the Word to conjunction with the Lord. That a fountain or fountains symbolize the Lord and also the Word is clear from many passages.

And he showed me a pure river of water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb. (Rev. 22:1) This symbolizes the book of Revelation, now opened and expounded as to its spiritual meaning, in which the Lord has revealed an abundance of Divine truths for people who will be in His New Church, which is the New Jerusalem. A pure river of water of life, bright as crystal, symbolizes an abundance of Divine truth in the Word shining through from its spiritual sense, which exists in the light of heaven. A river symbolizes an abundance of Divine truth, because the water of which a river consists symbolizes truths, and water of life symbolizes those truths received from the Lord through the Word.

TASK CARD

Sermon Title: True Christianity, Part 9: Living Fountains Of Water
Summary: The New Church exists because the Lord wishes to bring fresh, clear truths—His “living water”—to a thirsty, spiritually confused world. Just as water is essential for life and healing, Divine truth from the Lord restores, nourishes, and brings wholeness wherever it flows. The Lord’s Word and presence are ever-widening rivers, bringing hope, clarity, and love to all who receive them. When we take in these truths and live by them, the streams of spiritual life grow strong within us and among us, heal our inner deserts, and help create a world rooted in compassion and light.
Meaning: We are all invited to come to the Lord for the truth that truly satisfies—the “living water.” Receiving and living by His Word can refresh our hearts, clear away confusion, and enable us to become sources of kindness and encouragement for others. When we open ourselves to the Lord and seek to understand and do His will, we allow His love and wisdom to flow through us—transforming our lives and contributing to the healing of the world.
Task: Each day this week, set aside a moment to read a passage from the Word. Then, ask yourself: Where in my life am I spiritually “thirsty”? Is there an area where I need greater clarity, kindness, or peace? Offer a short prayer, asking the Lord to guide you to His living water. Choose one way during the week to share or express kindness or an encouraging word—helping to “refresh” someone else, just as the Lord refreshes you. “If anyone thirsts, let them come to Me and drink. Whoever who believes in Me… out of their heart will flow rivers of living water.” (John 7:37-38)

Good morning, friends!

We hope you can join us for worship today, Sunday, June 7th.

Today we continue our series of sermons on True Christianity. Today is part 8: How We Judge Others And How We Are Judged

Here are a few materials to help you to participate in the service today. May the Lord bless you.

READINGS FROM THE WORD

Matthew 7:1-5
“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

Genesis 9:18-23
Now the sons of Noah who went out of the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. And Ham was the father of Canaan. These three were the sons of Noah, and from these the whole earth was populated. And Noah began to be a farmer, and he planted a vineyard. Then he drank of the wine and was drunk, and became uncovered in his tent. And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brothers outside. But Shem and Japheth took a garment, laid it on both their shoulders, and went backward and covered the nakedness of their father. Their faces were turned away, and they did not see their father’s nakedness.

John 12:46-48
I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness. And if anyone hears My words and does not believe, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him—the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day.

Secrets of Heaven 2284:4, 1079
It is very common for those who have adopted an opinion regarding any truth of faith to sit in judgement on others and to say that they cannot be saved unless their beliefs coincide with their own - a judgement which the Lord has forbidden, in Matthew 7:1,2. The life of charity consists in thinking what is good in regard to others, and in willing for them that which is good, and in feeling joy within oneself that others as well are saved.

With those who have no charity, a feeling of hatred is manifest in every single thing; they wish to try everyone and indeed to pass judgement on them. Their one desire is to discover what is evil in them, all the time having it in mind to condemn, punish, and torment. But those who have charity hardly notice the evil in another person, but instead notice all the goods and truths that are theirs; and on their evils and falsities they place a good interpretation. Of such a nature are all angels, it being something they have from the Lord, who bends everything evil into good.

Married Love 523
The Lord says 'Judge not, for fear you are condemned' (Matt. 7:1). This cannot possibly mean a judgment about anyone's moral or civil life in the world, but a judgment about one’s spiritual and heavenly life. Anyone can see that, if it were forbidden to make judgments about the moral life of those who live with us in the world, society would collapse. How could we have a society without public judgments, or if everyone did not make their own judgment of others? But judgments about the nature of the inner mind or soul, and so the spiritual state, and thus their fate after death, are not permitted, since these are known only to the Lord.

TASK CARD

Sermon Title: True Christianity, Part 8: Judge Less, Love More
Review: While we often think “don’t judge” means avoiding all assessments, life requires us to discern carefully—choosing trustworthy friends, leaders, or decisions for our families. The Lord calls us to judge justly about actions (even out of necessity in civil or moral matters), but never to judge someone’s inner spirituality or eternal destiny—that is the Lord’s alone to know.
We should strive to focus on the good in others (as the angels do), avoid condemnation, and remember that our judgments might say more about us than the other person. The Lord calls us to show love, mercy, and humility—removing the beam from our own eyes before seeing clearly to help others.
Meaning: We are called to distinguish wisely between right and wrong, especially in practical and moral matters, but not to condemn others spiritually. Judging actions can be necessary for living together in society, but only the Lord sees the heart. We should approach others with charity, focus on the good, and avoid harsh or final condemnations. Before we judge, we should recall how much the Lord has forgiven us, and seek to act with compassion and humility.
Task: Choose one relationship where you often feel critical or judgmental. This week, make a conscious effort to put a good interpretation on that person’s actions, as angels do—look for something positive and mention it to them or to yourself. If negative thoughts arise, gently remind yourself: “I don’t know their whole story—only the Lord does.” Work on removing your own “beam” by seeking out what you could improve in yourself.

True Christianity, Part 8: How We Judge Others And How We Are Judged

What do we do when someone does something clearly wrong or bad? Don't we have to make judgments of others? If not, then why not? And if yes, in what way?

Am I going to be judged by some Divine tribunal after death? Does God judge me for the life I have lived? Is God fair and forgiving or tough and unyielding? Hmmm.

If you have questions like these perhaps you want to come on
over on Sunday as we dig into them.
