"𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬"
Rev. Alan H. Beasley, Conference Superintendent

12 Moses said to the Lord, “You have been telling me, ‘Lead these people,’ but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. You have said, ‘I know you by name, and you have found favor with me.’ 13 If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. Remember that this nation is your people.” 14 The Lord replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” 15 Then Moses said to him, “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. 16 How will anyone know that you are pleased with your people and with me unless you go with us? What else will distinguish your people and me from all the other people on the face of the earth?” 17 And the Lord said to Moses, “I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name.” 18 Then Moses said, “Now show me your glory. 19 And the Lord said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the Lord, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.” - Exodus 33:12-19

Moses had a special moment with God for which I’m thankful he recorded. You have had special moments with God as Moses did. I have had them. For each of us, they helped solidify our relationship with Him and revealed Him to us in some way. For Moses, it was about this: not wanting to live one moment away from the presence of God. Think about that for a moment. His heart was to walk with God with clarity. Moses made three requests. To sum them up, they totally turn the focus upon Yahweh. Be present, teach us, show us your great works. Listen to the framework of their conversation again today and apply it to your life.

Moses: Teach me your ways.

Yahweh: My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.

Moses: If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.

Yahweh: I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name.

Moses: Now show me your glory.

Yahweh: I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the Lord, in your presence.

Moses had a unique relationship with the Lord. Maybe he knew the value of his ways, his presence, and his glory. I believe we should, and it will transform your life.

Come celebrate with us today! Today is Pentecost Sunday, the day the Christian Church began. It’s also the day known as the “Birthday of the Methodist Movement. John Wesley, founder of the Methodist Movement, on May 24, 1738, while listening to a preacher describe how God changes our heart through faith in Jesus, “felt his heart strangely warmed”. This experience set Wesley on the course to lead the Methodist Movement.

Pastor Nannette’s message today is from Acts 2 and is titled “Filled with the Spirit”. She’ll be sharing the events of Pentecost and some parallels with Moses experience of receiving the 10 Commandments.

Worship Service is at 9:00 Central Time/10:00 Eastern Time

“Pierced to the Heart”
Rev. Toby Chastain, Executive Director, Board of Ministry

“Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart…” (Acts 2:37a, NASB95)

This Sunday (May 24) is a date of dual importance for those of us in the Methodist tradition. The first reason is one we hold in common with the church universal. It is Pentecost Sunday, the day we observe what many call the “Birthday of the Church”. The second reason is one a little more specific to our own spiritual history. It is Aldersgate Day, a day many regard as the “Birthday of the Methodist Movement”.
At Pentecost, the disciples received the promised gift of the Holy Spirit. Then Peter proclaimed the gospel message to the gathered crowd, and they were "pierced to the heart". About 3000 people repented of their sins, were baptized into the faith, and received the Holy Spirit for themselves. This began the spread of the gospel and the establishment of the church.
On May 24, 1738, John Wesley was at a gathering of believers on Aldersgate Street in London, and as the preacher was "describing the change which God works in the heart through faith in Christ”, Wesley said he “felt [his] heart strangely warmed”. This was a turning point for Wesley’s faith and set him on a course to lead a movement that would bring renewal to England, to the United States, and eventually to the world.
These events were significant because they brought about a transformation of the heart. This is how the Holy Spirit works! The Spirit works within our hearts and minds to help us see our need for God, give us power over sin, and allow us to change our lives to more fully live for Him. And this transformation is not something that happens just one time, but it is part of the believer's ongoing life of faith. Daily, we turn to God and ask him to convict us of sin and help us to live in holiness. Our faithfulness is a testimony to God’s love and grace and provides hope to those in need of salvation. Revival begins when God’s people experience a transformation of the heart!
Prayer: Come, Holy Spirit! Transform our hearts and help us to live more faithfully to God so that others will see our lives and be drawn to Christ.

“Proclaiming His Excellencies”
Donna King, Presiding Elder, Northeast District

Imagine you lived your life, up to now, in a deep cavern with a community of people who live in total darkness. You would know of no existence outside this darkness, and you would probably not believe there is one. Besides a visual sensory deficit, which would also be found in physical blindness, health studies show negative physical and mental health effects from sustained periods of darkness/lack of light.

Now imagine that someone comes into this darkened existence of your community and declares that there is a place where the light from the sun brings warmth and color to the world, where there is green grass and trees, and the birds and flowers are hues of blue, red, yellow, and other colors. The light from the sun brings healing to the darkness-related illnesses, and there is fresh air for everyone. There is a choice to make. Do I stay in darkness where life is familiar, or do I choose to walk out into the light where there is a new way of life?

1 Peter 2:9 says, "But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession, so 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘮𝘢𝘺 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘤𝘭𝘢𝘪𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘹𝘤𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘏𝘪𝘮 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘬𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘏𝘪𝘴 𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘶𝘴 𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵."

We once lived in 𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭 𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘬𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴, unaware that there was any other way to live until someone “𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘤𝘭𝘢𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘹𝘤𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘴” of new life in the Light of the Son. We made a choice to walk out of that darkness and into His light. It is now our honor and joy to "proclaim the excellencies of Him who called" us, 𝘴𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 others may walk out of that dark place “into His marvelous light!”
