Pelagius of the Celts Chapel is under the jurisdiction of the Inclusive Celtic Church, a small denomination in the Independent Sacramental Movement. As an “inclusive” church, we welcome all people, however they identify, and wherever they are on their spiritual journey, to have a home in our community. We look to the early Celtic Christians and how their teachings and practices still resonate toda

y. We care for, and seek the face of God in, the created world around us. We believe that belonging comes before believing and seek to offer hospitality to all. We believe that all are created in God’s image, born with original blessing, rather than original sin.

“Our most excellent Creator wished us to be able to do either but actually to do only one, that is, good, which God also commanded, giving us the capacity to do evil only so that we might do God’s will by exercising our own. That being so, this very capacity to do evil is also good—good, I say, because it makes the good part better by making it voluntary and independent, not bound by necessity but free to decide for itself.” ~ Pelagius

Due to the unfolding COVID-19 pandemic,
all services have been moved to my home chapel for the time being and will be broadcasted live on our page. You all will remain in my thoughts and prayers throughout our time apart. If you need to speak with me, I am available by phone or email. My contact information is posted in the about section of our page.

I know right now many of us feel fearful and powerless. You are anxious about what lies ahead. You may even be questioning, “Why, God, why?!?”. We are facing something we have never had to face before. This is a storm like no other. You may be afraid for yourself, family, friends, neighbors, and total strangers. I encourage you to give your fear to God and ask for God to calm your heart. At least once a day, turn off the news and put down your electronics for 30 minutes to an hour. Quiet your mind and pray. Rest in the love and peace of God. Have a good cry or scream with God if you need it. Allow yourself time to remember that God never leaves you. That you are the light of God dispels the darkness that surrounds us. Offer these pray if you a feeling have no other words:

God of all, give me the courage I need to have faith in you. Let my love for you and for other people be so great that my fears will never be able to keep me from doing what is good and right. Amen!

I love you all and may God bless you +++

It was three years today that our St. Pelagius congregation began worshiping at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. We are so grateful to the people of St. Paul’s for allowing us to worship in such an amazingly, beautiful space. Thank you all for welcoming us.

Below is a photo from that day.

Good afternoon St. Pelagius Community,

I wanted everyone to know that I am monitoring the tropical disturbance developing in the Gulf. The weather service is predicting that a category one hurricane will most likely hit Louisiana some time Saturday evening or Sunday morning. I will continue monitoring the storm and make a decision about Sunday mass as it gets closer.

As I pray for all of you and our state, I encourage you to join me in prayer for our those around us as we prepare for storm related difficulties. Be sure to stay alert and take appropriate steps to prepare for whatever may come.

Always remember that no matter what may come our way, God never leaves us on our own.

Love and peace to you all.

+ Bishop Matthew

Tropical storm watches are now in effect from the mouth of the Mississippi River to Morgan City, Louisiana.
