Members gather weekly to prepare for Sunday Mass with Prayer, Scripture, Eucharist, and Community. It's a program that was developed in the Diocese of Lafayette, Louisiana, USA in the late sixties and early seventies by Father Conley Bertrand, a parish priest. Graced with a love for prayer and Scripture and an ardent zeal, he sought to communicate these qualities. This inspiring program is a compl

ete study of the Sunday Readings, including Gospels (Be My Witness), Epistles(Love One Another) and the Old Testament(Give Glory to God) in three seperate volumes. Following the Liturgical Calendar and utilizing the Catechism of the Catholic Church, members grow in sanctification through prayer, Scripture, Eucharist, and Christian community. This Catholic faith formation program creates an atmosphere of prayer and helps to develop an awareness of the Divine Presence as well as nurtures an ardent desire for God.

Daily Gospel & Commentary— Mark 12:28-34
Thursday June 4th of the 9th Week in Ordinary Time
“Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is Lord alone! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. The second is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.” (Mk 12:30-31) There can be only one God containing all perfections in himself. “In him we live and move and have our being” (Acts 17:28). He deserves and we owe him total love and devotion. He sustains us in life from moment to moment as well as having called us into being. Jesus combined the two great commandments into one. Love is the fulfillment of the law. The mystery of love is generative; love is unity. Many people in this country are not hungry for food but love. Maybe that kind of hunger is in your own home or family. We cannot say that we love God when we fail to love the people in our lives.

Daily Gospel & Commentary— Mark 12:18-27
Wednesday June 3rd of the 9th Week in Ordinary Time
“Jesus said to them, “Are you not misled because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God? When they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but they are like the angels in heaven. As for the dead being raised, have you not read Moses, in the passage about the bush, how God told him, I am the God of Abraham…? He is not God of the dead but of the living.” (Mk 12:24-27) The Sadducees did not believe in the resurrection of the dead. Jesus proceeded to explain to them that they did not know the Scriptures or the power of God. In the resurrection there are no marriages. The number of people chosen by God to exist is complete. There is no more need for the begetting of children or sexual relations. God is enough for everyone. Their life is complete in union with him. People are transformed into spiritual beings and immortal like the resurrected Jesus. (see 1 Cor 15:42-44). Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are very much alive. This also hints at the future resurrection of their bodies (Compare Is 26:19)

Daily Gospel & Commentary— Mark 12:13-17
Tuesday June 2nd of the 9th Week in Ordinary Time
“Knowing their hypocrisy he said to them, “Why are you testing me? Bring me a denarius to look at.” ….”Repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.” (Mk 12:15, 17)
The Jews, subject to Roman rule, had to pay a poll tax and some Jews refused to pay it because payment was admission of Roman right to rule them. If Jesus said pay the tax, the Pharisees would denounce him as disloyal to his country. If he said they should not pay the tax, the Herodians would report him to the Roman governor to be executed for treason. Because Caesar’s likeness is stamped on the coin for the tax, it should be given back to him as his rightful property since his image is on one side. On the other side of the coin there was an inscription that identified him. And since humans are made in the image of God, they must repay God what is God’s by devoting their whole lives to him. For, they belong to him. We were bought at a very high price, the death of Jesus Christ.

Daily Gospel & Commentary— Mark 12:1-12
Monday June 1st of the 9th Week in Ordinary Time
“A man planted a vineyard, put a hedge around it, dug a winepress, and built a tower. Then he leased it to tenant farmers and left on a journey. At the proper time he sent a servant….But they seized him, beat him,…He sent him to them last of all, thinking, “They will respect my son’ (Mk 12:1, 3, 6) The man who planted the vineyard is God. The vineyard represents Israel. The hedge around the city is the walled city of Jerusalem and the tower is the Temple in the city. The tenant farmers signify the religious leaders of Israel. The servants that God sent were God’s messengers, the prophets. God’s love and generosity are far beyond our understanding. They murdered the son out of the vineyard. This refers to the fact that Jesus was crucified outside the walls of Jerusalem. God put them to death and gave the vineyard to the Gentiles in A.D. 70 when Jerusalem was destroyed by the Roman army.

Celebrating Trinity Sunday
With a quote from Elizabeth of the Trinity
“O my God, Trinity whom I adore create in my soul a kind of Incarnation of the Word. That I may be another humanity for him in which he can renew his whole mystery.”
“It seems to me I have found heaven on earth since heaven is God and God is in my soul.”

Daily Gospel and Commentary —Mark 11:11-26
Friday May 29th of the 8th Week in Ordinary Time
“The next day as they were leaving Bethany Jesus was hungry. Seeing from a distance a fig tree in leaf, he went over to see if he could find anything on it. When he reached it he found nothing but leaves;” The barren fig tree represents Israel. Jesus cursing the fig tree is a parable in action representing Jesus’ judgment on baren Israel and the fate of Jerusalem for failing to receive his teaching. The withered and dead tree is a visible prophecy of the doom that awaits Jerusalem for murdering the Messiah.

Daily Gospel & Commentary—Mark 10:46-52
Thursday May 28th of the 8th Week in Ordinary Time
“…Bartimaeus, a blind man,…On hearing that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus son of David, have pity on me.” (Mk 10:46-47) The blind man has more sight than those who can see. We too are blind. We do not see truth and the spiritual world. We must follow the blind man’s example and cry out to Jesus to take pity on us. We are sitting along the way of life without any significant effort to grow spiritually. Jesus will give us spiritual insight; we will take courage and begin to follow Jesus on the way of holiness.

🎉 Celebrating 67 Years of Priesthood: Fr. Bertrand! 🎉

Today, we mark a monumental milestone: the 67th Anniversary of the Priesthood for our beloved Father Bertrand, ordained for the Diocese of Lafayette in 1959!

Fr. Bertrand is the founder and director of Come, Lord Jesus! What began through his deep prayer and spiritual vision in local parishes has flourished into a thriving movement. Modeled after the Early Church, this powerful faith formation program now spans multiple countries, bringing thousands closer to Christ and earning sacred papal blessings and bishop endorsements along the way.

Even at 94 years old, Fr. Bertrand remains incredibly active in the Come, Lord Jesus! community—still saying anniversary masses, leading workshops, and recording our weekly podcast! When looking back at this incredible legacy, Fr. Bertrand always humbly reminds us: "God did that!"

We thank the Lord today for the masterpiece of faith written through his 67 years of devoted, faithful service.

"And I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding."
— Jeremiah 3:15

Daily Gospel Commentary— Mark 10:32-45
Wednesday May 27th of the 8th Week in Ordinary Time
“Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to Jesus and said to him, “Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you.” He replied, “What do you wish me to do for you.” They answered him, “Grant that in your glory we may sit one at your right and the other at your left.” Jesus said to them, “You do not know what you are asking. Can you drink the chalice that I drink and be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?” They said to him, “We can.” (Mk 10:35-39) It is remarkable that James and John chose to ask him to give them first place just after he announced his passion and death. They still did not understand the nature of the kingdom and the virtue needed to attain it. Jesus told them quite plainly that they did not know what they were asking. Drinking the cup means accepting the destiny assigned them by God. Jesus asked James and John whether they were able to be baptized with the one he will endure. This signifies his immersion in trial and suffering. Actually, James was martyred and John was exiled. But it was not Jesus’ place to fulfill their request. Again, Jesus shows his complete dependence on the Father for such decisions.

Daily Gospel Commentary— Mark 10:28-31
Tuesday May 26th of the 8th Week in Ordinary Time
“Amen, I say to you, there is no one who has given up house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands for my sake and for the sake of the Gospel who will not receive a hundred times more in this present age:” (Mk 10:29-30) Unlike the rich young man, Peter and the disciples had left everything to follow Jesus. Peter still had his boat which he used to transport Jesus when needed and his house which sometimes became a place for Jesus to reside. He still possessed these things, but he used them in such a way that they did not get in the way of serving Jesus and the Kingdom of God. He was detached from them. We too must consider how we can detach ourselves from our possessions so they will not prevent us from spending our time and energies to serve God and his kingdom. In this way we will reap supernatural and eternal dividends. Our reward will be exceedingly great!
