One thing that is very important on our journey through life is an accurate trail map. Sometimes the trail can become vague but an accurate map that can show us the landmarks to look for. A peak to focus on. A stream crossing to watch for. Any kind of a trail marker that will help us recognize the right trail.
Once I was with a group backpacking toward our campsite. We had been in the woods for a few hours and the trail was well marked and easy to follow. Then the trail opened up into a large beautiful meadow. Perhaps a half a mile ahead there was a stream that cut across the front third of the meadow then re-entered the woods. Our trail cut through that meadow and re-entered the woods about a mile on the other side of the stream. We were anticipating a great hike through the meadow so we could see all the peaks around us and enjoy the spring sunshine. The problem for us that day was that the meadow was covered with about three inches of water from the spring rains and melting snow. And because of that, the trail was lost. We decided to walk around the edge of the meadow to avoid the minor flood, but that took some doing. What would have been a pleasant afternoon and an early arrival at camp became a strenuous task. There was no trail where we were traveling. We were constantly looking at the map and checking our surroundings. Looking for landmarks. Watching the terrain. We knew where we were going but the hike was hard because there was no trail. We eventually found the trail again, and finally arrived safely at our campsite. Thanks to a good map and the ability to read it. Thanks to good trail markers.
The Bible is like that for us. Sometime we lose our way along our journey through life. The Bible will keep us on track. Show us what to avoid. Show us what to focus on. Show us how to get back to where we need to be in our relationship with God. The Bible will lead us safely through this life and deliver us safely to heaven and the presence of God. Learn to read it and thank God for the trail markers.Trail Markers 9/3/2020 M

What is Your Default?

I use Blue Letter Bible to do a lot of my Bible reading and Bible study. It is a great tool. And it is donor supported. Which for me makes it even better. But there is one thing I have noticed, whenever there is some kind of a glitch, it freezes, it washes out and then when it comes back it comes up with a search result of Jesus. At first I would get a little annoyed. Then one day it hit me, this could be a lot worse. This is really pretty good. This computer program asks me if I have tried Jesus yet.
When you have a brain cramp or are overloaded with a request and you freeze up. What is the first thing that comes into your mind when you land again? Is it Jesus?
I know we have a lot of things that are battling for our attention and and our priority. But, I believe that the most beneficial thing for us on many different levels is considering Jesus.
Choose to, in the middle of your melt down, pause and breathe and then invite Jesus into your situation. Just tell Him what is going on. Ask Him for His perspective. Then ask Jesus to guide you in the way to handle the thing going on. Not only will you be calmer as you deal with your come apart. You will also develop a new way to approach problems. With Jesus. Then you will begin to add Jesus into other areas of life. And you know what? That is just what He wants. To walk with you through the ups and downs, goods and bads, defeats and victories.
So go ahead and change your default settings to Jesus. You will gain new strengths. You will gain a new confidence. And you will gain a friend that will never leave you.

OK, so we are going along in 1 Peter chapter 1 and we get to
verse 12, and here is what it says, It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you,. So then you ask the questions, who are “they” and who are “you”. “They” are the people who followed and served God before you. Hebrews chapter 11 is a good place to find some “theys”. “You” is you and me and other people we know. “Those people” believed in God. “They” had a relationship with God. “They” told other people about the benefits of following God and the requirements of following God. But “they” didn’t do it for themselves. “They” did it for “you” and “me”. So that “we” would have the same opportunity to experience redemption and reconciliation and relationship like “they” experienced and that God desires “we” experience. But here is the catch. There is a group of “theys” on the other side of our “you”. Just like “they” served “you” and “me”, “we” have to serve the next group of “yous” or “theys”. Because the Christian life is not just to make “your” life better and gain entrance into heaven for “yourself”.
The Christian life is also joining the relay. Just like someone shared Jesus with you. You are supposed to share Jesus with someone else who needs what you needed. And who can recognize that better than you.
So don’t hoard the blessings that your relationship with Jesus gives you. Be a super spreader. Expose the people you come into contact with to your story of life with Jesus. When you do that you will find out you are not serving yourself, but others, and Jesus too.

Jesus is sitting on the side of a mountain somewhere on northern side of the Sea of Galilee with his disciples and a crowd of at least 20,000 people. In the middle of His sermon He drops in this nugget,
“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for.
Keep on seeking, and you will find.
Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.
For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds.
And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.”
Jesus is talking to His disciples, and the people about the importance of stick-to-itive-ness, persistence. What is your Persistence Quotient? There are different reasons you may register low on the PQ scale. Maybe you just have a lot going on. Maybe you feel like you are nagging. Maybe you are just not sure if what you are asking about is really that important. Well, if it matters to you it matters to Jesus, so talk to Him about it. And cover all the bases. And don’t worry about the nagging thing. In Luke 18:1-8 Jesus gives an illustration about the benefit of keeping on asking, you come away with an answer. And who doesn’t have a lot going on? The Merry-Go-Round just keeps on spinning doesn’t it? But stick to it. If something is a stressor, or there is a need, or you are looking for direction, keep bringing it and laying it out in front of Jesus. Talk to Him about the why and the how. Work through things with Him. Because…everyone who keeps on asking will receive. And everyone who keeps on seeking will find. And everyone who keeps on knocking will find the right door that opens up to God’s provision. It works.

There were a lot of things to take in along our journey through episode 7 of The Chosen. But the main thing was the continuing transformation of Nicodemus. In the beginning He was locked in on his position as The Teacher of Teachers and everything that involved. At the top of that list was maintaining peace with Rome so that the religious elite could maintain their control of Jewish society. Then something happened. Nicodemus ran into something he could not control or explain. He saw something he could not unsee. He saw the work of God in the lives of people in real time.
That started a very precarious journey for Nicodemus. One that we see illustrated by many of the encounters we read about in the Gospels. Nicodemus has come to the place where he must make up his mind what he believes about Jesus, and what he will do because of that.
Nicodemus finally gets what he has been wanting since episode 2, a face to face meeting with Jesus. He has gathered information from Mary Magdalene and John the Baptizer and the cripple whom Jesus healed. Now, he must make his own decision. Is Jesus just an oddball? Is He a preacher on His way to becoming a politician? Or is He the Messiah, the Son of God?
This is the same kind of decision each of us must make at least once in our lives. We see how people around us are affected by their belief in Jesus as the Savior. And we have our own encounters with Him. Is Jesus what others say about Him? Is Jesus what the Bible claims He is? Nicodemus comes to the undeniable conclusion that Jesus is God in the Flesh. He even quotes Psalm 2:12 as his profession of faith. And Jesus confirms that confession when He quotes the end of that same verse. However, there is one more step that Nicodemus must make in his journey of belief. It is the same step each of us must complete along our journey as well. Believing as much as we can will we act upon our belief to become a follower of Jesus? Or do we think we have to much to give up to act upon that belief? The answers to those questions makes all the difference. My advice to you is to “Jump in the Water!”
