Sermon: “And How Are the Children”
is the traditional greeting among the Masai people of
east Africa. If the children are doing well, then all are
doing well. The children carry hope for us. They are the
joy of our beating hearts. When the state of the world
leads us to despair, look to the children, be with the
children, care for the children. They can sustain us
through hard times.”

Sunday Hybrid Service
10:00 am MAY 10, 2026

Guest Minister: Rev. Scott Jamieson
Sermon: The Fifth Chair
Our world seems to be shrinking, not in its physical size,
but in its sense of personal identity, who we welcome into
our orbits and who we reject, who we are comfortable with
and who we are not. The greatest personal power we have
is choice. How we use that determines our own sense of
safety, love and belonging. That power can be used for
good or bad. Today’s sermon examines how each of us
can make our world safer by becoming more welcoming of
the stranger through an invitation to sit in the Fifth Chair.

A SERVICE IN HONOR OF EARTH DAY 2026

April 19th we share the offering plate with
the “Citizens’ Climate Lobby”
Citizens’ Climate Lobby is a non-profit,
nonpartisan, grassroots advocacy organization focused on
national policies to address climate change. We move
Congress to pass big solutions that will ensure a healthy
climate. We also work on complementary solutions that
help us work together in our communities and foster a more
collaborative environment in Congress. Our approach is
thoughtful and thorough. We are prepared — we consult
experts, use data, and solicit feedback before forming
opinions or making decisions.

Rev. Steve Edington
Sermon: Sustaining Stories When
Hope is Hard to Find

One of the many paradoxes I find myself living with right
now—in the ninth decade of my life—is that while my
personal life is in a good and hopeful place, I find myself
searching for hope, and for trust in the power of goodness,
while looking at the times in which I, and we, live. Hope and
trust can be hard to find right now. In dealing with this
paradox I look at two stories I find to be sustaining for times
when hope is hard to find. One has to do with how the New
Testament Gospels came to be written, and the other
draws on the first three words of our Constitution: “We the
People...” If you’re wondering how I can pull those two very
disparate stories together, I’ll see you on Sunday!
