It is difficult to find a Rev. Dr. William Barber talk that is under an hour, but Tamara found one AND he is speaking about the importance of Labor in America! Reverend Dr William J Barber, II speaks on racial and economic justice at the 2016 SEIU Convention in 2016, although it could have been delivered today. There can be no economic justice until there is racial justice.

Please join Jessa Barthels and Erica Merchant this week to celebrate National Poetry Month (4 months late!) with an All-Ages Poetry Service.

Members of our congregation will step into the pulpit to share both original creations and beloved poems by other poets. We will experience the collaborative artistry of our RE students, who have crafted a poem for this occasion.

A clipboard with activities will be provided for the young and young at heart.

What can a little trash-compacting robot teach us about resilience, loneliness, and love? In this sermon, Rev. T. J. FitzGerald explores the surprising spiritual wisdom of WALL-E, reflecting on what it means to keep showing up, hold onto hope, and choose connection in a world that can sometimes feel broken or overwhelming.

Through the story of WALL-E, this sermon explores resilience, Universalist faith, and the power of what the film calls "irrational love." Rev. Fitzgerald invites us to consider how small acts of courage and compassion can change lives.

We are especially thankful to have our neighbors from the Islamic Center for the Northshore, Masjid An-Noor, in Mandeville come and share elements of their faith and lead our service.

In these times of divisiveness and political rancor, it is essential that we remember our shared bonds of humanity, and one way to do that is by breaking bread together.

Northshore Rising Sun Sangha meets in-person at NSUUS the third Sunday of each month from 4-6pm. The next meeting is Sunday, August 16th.

This sangha (people who practice meditation and study the dharma together) practices Zen Meditation in the Plum Village tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh.

The experience includes guided meditation, walking meditation and silent meditation as well as dharma discussion based primarily on the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh. All are welcome to practice with the group. You can bring your practice cushion or sit in chairs provided.

Northshore Rising Sun Sangha will offer a Day of Mindfulness Practice this up-coming Saturday.

Where: NSUUS

When Aug. 8

Time: 9am-1pm, please arrive at least 10 minutes early to get settled.

The sangha practices in the style of Plum Village and Zen Master, Thich Nhat Hanh. Meditation practice forms of guided meditation, walking meditation and silent sitting meditation as well as rhythmic meditation will be practiced.

Dharma discussion will be on the theme: “Unscrunched- Working with Processes of the Mind.” Our mind has a grasp and a release function. We can develop awareness of both and learn to make choices to increase well-being for ourselves and those around us.

All are welcome to participate.

Light snacks will be provided. There will be 5 minute breaks during the day.

North Shore Unitarian Universalists invite you to be part of our third annual Blessing of the Backpacks, a beloved tradition honoring all who are involved in the sacred practice of education.

Students of all ages, teachers, staff, and everyone who supports our schools—from cooks to receptionists, from janitors to classroom aides—are welcome to bring their bag (backpack, purse, briefcase, or otherwise) to be blessed as they embark on a new year of learning and growth.
