UPDATE #2 - livestream/devotion options

As I shared earlier, we unfortunately were not able to meet today due to a persisting power outage at church. On the bright side, there are still other ways to enjoy quiet time in Lord this morning - from home!

Option #1 - Livestreams

Option 2 - family home devotion

Consider spending some alone time (or time with family members) with Psalm 46 this morning. It's not a real long psalm, should take only a minute or two to read.

If you choose to do this, here are some questions to meditate on:

1) What is this psalm teaching me about God?

2) This psalm is commonly read and recalled each year when remembering the Reformation. If you know a little bit about the Reformation/Martin Luther that took place some 500 years ago in Germany - why do you suppose this psalm is appropriate and fitting for remembering the Reformation?

3) We recently experienced some strong weather here in Thurston County. What weather/natural wonders elements are in this psalm? How could this psalm be a source of comfort and peace for when we have to experience strong weather events?

4) Does this psalm move you to confess any sin(s) to God? If so, what?

5) How does this psalm comfort you?

Even though we didn't gather for normal church today, I hope that the resources above (or some other worship/devotion outlet you chose on your own) allows you to have some quiet time in God today. Lord willing we'll be back at it next week with Galatians 3!

NO CHURCH TODAY 10/26

Messiah will not be having worship today (in person or online). We’ve been without power since 2pm Saturday. There is no heat, light, electricity at church as of 8am this morning.

I’m going to try to get over to a coffee house in a little bit and with better internet there I will share some livestream options/devotional resources that you and your family can use at home today.

Join us tomorrow evening for Ash Wednesday worship at 6:30pm! A meal precedes the service at 5:30pm, in the fellowship hall.

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent, a 40 day journey where we fix our eyes on Jesus, who headed to the cross long ago to pay for our sins and accomplish our salvation. During this season, we call to mind our great sins, repent of them, and rejoice knowing that they have been paid for already by the perfect death and resurrection of Jesus.

Tomorrow we will be starting back up with out midweek Bible Study! We will be studying the 5 books of the bible that are only one chapter long. Tomorrow's focus will be on the Old Testament book of Obadiah. Join us in the fellowship hall at 11 am or 6:30 pm.

Messiah members: forgot to highlight it in the Anointed Announcements email newsletter yesterday but we WILL be having men’s Bible study at Cutters Point Coffee (Ruddell Road location) tomorrow from 9:30-10:30am. Men of Messiah - hope you will join us as we continue studying the parable of the Sower!

Messiah friends and family,

Last Sunday, we gathered at church to consider the 5th commandment: the preciousness of human life. We also pondered how we, as beloved children of God, can steward and care for the lives of others. "How can we leave others lives better than we found it?"

By the time our Sunday service began, a great tragedy had occurred across three of our WELS families in Wisconsin: six lives were lost in an overnight fire in a vacation home. In God's infinite wisdom, mysterious to our logic and reasoning, he brought six of our brothers and sisters in Christ (three adults, three kids) into his loving arms for eternal life. The six who perished are now enjoying eternal victory won by Christ in the cross and empty tomb.

As you can imagine, numerous families are reeling. One of our pastors has lost his wife and youngest daughter. A woman has lost her dad, two sisters, and two children of her own. Another woman has lost her husband, two daughters, and two granddaughters. Not to mention all of the extended family and friends who mourn.

Though we cannot be close to them (geographically), and though we may not know them on a personal level: these are our brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus. (And they're our eternity-mates!). Please prayerfully consider a financial token of support at one of the links below.

Thank you for your gospel-fueled desire to leave these families a little "better than you found them." Jesus lives! (John 11:25-26)

WELS Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Yesterday, we received the news of a terrible tragedy. Six members of an extended family lost their lives in a house fire at a vacation rental near Wisconsin Dells, Wis. Those now in heaven are: Pastor Steve
