Official Announcement

Antiochian House of Studies Successfully Completes ATS Focused Visit Evaluation
─────────────
The Antiochian House of Studies (AHOS) is pleased to announce the successful completion of its focused evaluation visit conducted by the Association of Theological Schools (ATS) on March 31, 2026.

During the onsite visit to the AHOS campus in La Verne, California, the evaluation committee met with institutional leadership, including the president and dean, as well as faculty, board members, administrators, students, and other stakeholders.

The committee commended the professionalism, transparency, and constructive engagement demonstrated by all participants throughout the evaluation process.

Following the visit, the evaluation committee submitted its report to ATS. Upon the recommendation of the visiting committee, the ATS Board of Commissioners reviewed the report during its meeting in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on June 1–2, 2026.

The Board’s agenda included AHOS’ focused visit in relation to the institution’s comprehensive evaluation plan, as previously required in June 2022.

After careful review of the report and supporting materials in light of the ATS Commission’s Standards, Policies, and Procedures, the Board voted to receive and accept the report of the Spring 2026 focused visit.

This outcome affirms the Antiochian House of Studies’ continued commitment to academic excellence, institutional integrity, and ongoing improvement in theological education.

AHOS expresses its sincere gratitude to His Eminence Metropolitan Saba, Chair of the Board, the members of the Board of Directors, the president, dean, faculty, students, staff, alumni, and all supporters whose contributions made this successful evaluation possible.

AHOS at the International Theological Symposia in Iași, Romania
─────────────
Under the auspices of His Eminence Metropolitan Saba, the Antiochian House of Studies was honored to take part in two international theological symposia in Iași, Romania this May.
AHOS was represented by Very Rev. Michel Najim, President, and Rt. Rev. Archimandrite Fadi Rabbat, Academic Dean, who presented in the English-language session "Feminine Holiness and the Logos of the Church." Fr. Michel offered a study on the unity of Christ's Body in the Eucharist in the theology of Saint John of Damascus, while Fr. Fadi explored the feminine holiness of the Theotokos as an icon of the Logos-shaped Church.
We were also represented on site by Fr. Cosmin Sicoe, AHOS doctoral student, who presented the teaching of the Church on the Theotokos before the Third Ecumenical Council, with a focus on St. Ephraim the Syrian's Hymns on the Nativity of Christ.
Hosted by the Faculty of Orthodox Theology "Dumitru Stăniloae" of Alexandru Ioan Cuza University, the symposia gathered scholars and clergy from across the Orthodox world for a week of theological reflection on the place of the Theotokos in the life of the Church.

The Orthodox Academic Society Successfully Concludes Its 9th Summer Symposium

On Saturday, May 30, 2026, the Orthodox Academic Society (OAS), under the auspices of the Antiochian House of Studies (AHOS), gathered scholars, clergy, students, and guests from around the world for its 9th Summer Symposium, held online via Zoom.

This year's theme,

"Faith and Reason in the Patristic Mind: From Creed to Controversy – The Fathers’ Intellectual Defense Against Heresies,"

Opening addresses from our President, V. Rev. Fr. Michel Najim, and Academic Dean, Rt. Rev. Archimandrite Fadi Rabbat, set the day's conviction: faith and reason are not enemies — the Fathers defended Orthodoxy not by rejecting thought, but by disciplining it.

The symposium featured insightful presentations on:
🔹 Theosis and the therapeutic vision of theology in the thought of Fr. John Romanides and the Holy Fathers.
🔹 The Edenic garment and the restoration of humanity through Christ in the writings of St. Ephraim the Syrian and St. Theophan the Recluse.
🔹 Natural revelation and the witness of creation in St. Basil the Great’s Hexaemeron.
🔹 Orthodox education, spiritual resilience, and the preservation of Orthodox identity during the Ottoman period.

Through rich theological reflection and scholarly dialogue, participants were reminded that authentic Orthodox theology harmonizes faith and reason, doctrine and spiritual life, truth and love.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all presenters, moderators, participants, and supporters whose contributions made this symposium a meaningful and enriching gathering.

May the witness of the Holy Fathers continue to inspire our pursuit of truth, wisdom, and holiness.
