“WHEN LIFE SEEMS UNFAIR”
Friday, June 5, 2026 Morning Devotional
Bible Text: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.” — Proverbs 3:5
Have you ever asked, “Why is this happening to me?” There are times in life when things do not seem fair. Sometimes good people suffer, honest people are treated badly, and faithful believers face difficult trials. During these moments, we may feel discouraged, confused, and even forgotten. However, the Bible reminds us that God is still in control, even when life does not make sense.
One person who experienced unfair treatment was Joseph. He was loved by his father but hated by his brothers. They sold him into slavery, and later he was thrown into prison for a crime he did not commit. Yet through all these painful experiences, God never abandoned him. Joseph’s story teaches us how to respond when life seems unfair.
1. When Life Seems Unfair, Remember That God Sees Your Struggles
First, when life seems unfair, we must remember that God sees everything we are going through. Often, we feel alone when people misunderstand us or treat us unfairly. We may think that nobody notices our pain. However, God sees every tear, every disappointment, and every burden we carry.
Joseph experienced this truth personally. After being sold into slavery by his own brothers, he could have believed that God had forgotten him. Yet the Bible tells us that “the Lord was with Joseph” (Genesis 39:2). Even in slavery and prison, God was watching over him.
In the same way, when we face difficult situations, we can find comfort in knowing that God sees us. Although others may not understand our struggles, God understands completely and cares deeply for us.
2. When Life Seems Unfair, Trust That God Is Working for Your Good
Second, when life seems unfair, we must trust that God is working behind the scenes. While Joseph was in prison, it appeared that his dreams had come to an end. Years passed, and nothing seemed to improve. Yet God was preparing him for something greater.
At the right time, God opened the door for Joseph to become a ruler in Egypt. Because of his position, he was able to save countless lives during a severe famine. Looking back, Joseph told his brothers, “You meant evil against me; but God meant it for good” (Genesis 50:20).
Likewise, there are times when we cannot understand why God allows certain things to happen. Nevertheless, God sees the whole picture while we only see a small part. Therefore, we can trust that He is working for our good even when we cannot see it.
3. When Life Seems Unfair, Keep Trusting God and Doing What Is Right
Finally, when life seems unfair, we must continue to trust God and do what is right. It is easy to become bitter, angry, or discouraged when we are treated unfairly. However, Joseph chose a different path. Instead of giving up, he remained faithful to God.
Because Joseph stayed faithful, God eventually honored him. His difficult experiences became part of God’s plan to bless many people. This reminds us of the promise found in Galatians 6:9: “Let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”
Therefore, no matter how difficult life may become, we should continue praying, serving, and trusting God. In His perfect time, He will bring blessings from our trials.
As we reflect on Joseph’s story, we learn that life may sometimes seem unfair, but God is always faithful. First, God sees our struggles and understands our pain. Second, God is working behind the scenes for our good. Third, God calls us to remain faithful and continue doing what is right.
Although we may not always understand our circumstances, we can trust the God who does. The same God who guided Joseph through slavery and prison is the same God who guides us today. He has not forgotten us, and He never will.
Perhaps you are facing an unfair situation right now. Maybe you have been hurt, disappointed, or misunderstood. If so, bring your burden to Jesus today. Trust Him with your struggles, your questions, and your future. Even when you cannot see His hand, you can trust His heart. One day, just like Joseph, you will discover that God was leading you every step of the way.
So let us continue to trust the Lord, even when life seems unfair, knowing that His plans are always good and His love never fails.
Amen.
