Spring cleanup at Oakwood Cemetery, La Salle, will begin March 8, 2025, weather permitting. Anyone wishing to save items including winter blankets, wreaths, or flower arrangements from the past year should pick them up before March 15.

Happy Arbor Day! Founded in 1872 by J. Sterling Morton in Nebraska, over one million trees were planted that day alone. Celebrated the fourth Friday of April each year, its purpose is to promote tree planting and conservation.

After losing over 50 large, mature trees at Oakwood the past ten years, we are committed to replanting a wide variety of new trees.

A photo of the vintage lilac and samples of the newer trees are below. Watching them leaf out in spring is always fun!

In the spring of 2020 three bald cypress trees were planted in the northeastern part of the cemetery. Three years later all are thriving, the one behind the Hummer plot especially! (The photo of the tree with lighter foliage is from 2020; the other two were taken recently.)

Thanks to Morgan Wilson Landscaping for donating six new trees to Oakwood this week. One more was provided by another donor. This late in the fall the trees are already going dormant and have lost most of their leaves. We look forward to seeing them leaf out in the spring.
