It is a historical fact that there was a man who was brutally killed by death on a cross, and then three days later His tomb – which was guarded by soldiers – was found to be empty. Empty.

This isn’t a myth or a nice story that’s been passed on for generations. This is something that is recorded, documented, and a fact for which the early Christians gave up their lives to defend.

You are loved so intimately by God who became man to save you from your sin. This fact has the power to change our lives because if we believe it with our whole heart we will know that we are good enough.

You are beloved.
You matter.

Broken and defenseless, more violence is placed upon Jesus by driving iron through skin, muscle and bone. The hands of soldiers drove those nails- ours do, too.β €β €β €β €

STATION FIVE: SIMON OF CYRENE HELPS JESUS CARRY THE CROSS

β€œAnd as they led Him away, they seized one Simon of Cyre’ne, who was coming in from the country, and laid on him the cross, to carry behind Jesus.”

REFLECTION:

Though we do not choose it, sometimes the suffering of others is thrust upon us. Does the weight cause you to collapse, or do you stand strong and ease someone else’s burden?

STATION FOUR: JESUS MEETS HIS MOTHER

β€œBehold, this child is set for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is spoken (and a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that thoughts out of many hearts may be revealed.”

REFLECTION:

Witnessing the suffering of her child, all Mary can do is journey alongside Jesus.
Who are you accompanying on the journey?

This past year has been a long and rough road, but Jesus was walking with us every step of the way. He’s given us strength when we feel week and courage when we were scared.

Today on Palm Sunday, we walk with him to Jerusalem as he takes up his cross. During this sacred week spend more time in prayer and silence so that you can have a truly intimate encounter with Christ.

STATION THREE: JESUS FALLS THE FIRST TIME

β€œHe has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted”

Reflection:
Bearing the weight of humanity, Jesus collapses, but his mission is far from complete. Where do you find the strength to carry-on when the weight of the world seems too much to bear?

STATION TWO: JESUS TAKES UP HIS CROSS

β€œSo they took Jesus and he went out, bearing His own Cross, to the place of a skull, which is called in Hebrew Gol’Gatha

Reflection:
In search of comfort, we can turn from suffering, or we can gaze upon the reality and embrace it. Where are your eyes fixed today?

STATION ONE: JESUS IS CONDEMNED TO DIE

β€œThey shouted out, crucify, crucify him! A third time Pilate said to them, β€œwhy, what evil has He done? I have found Him no crime deserving of death; I will therefore chastise Him and release Him.” But they were urgent, demanding with loud cries that he should be crucified. And their voices prevailed.”

Reflection:

The same crowd that shouted β€œHosanna” now shouts β€œCrucify Him.” We often do the same with Jesus and others to our words and actions. What do you say?

We should take todays Gospel to heart.

Where, in our lives, have we placed a higher value on our own perceived successes than on God’s glorification? Why do we fail to see God’s plan at work around us?

God is constantly asking us to β€œlook up” first in order to β€œlook inward.” It is only in Him and through Him that we can accomplish anything in this life. As we continue this Lenten journey let’s be conscious that God is in all things, it’s up to us to seek him daily.

Weekly challenge:

Find a way this week to give your time to someone else. It could be through volunteering, spending time with your family when you normally would not, or finding another way to β€œspend your time” for the good of someone else.

The Lord puts a journey before all of us. He’s calling you to something more and something higher. Christ wants a life of greatness and abundance for you not a life of mere normalcy (John 10:10). In today’s reading, God unleashed something in Abraham through this challenge and He desires to do the same in you. The question is whether or not you are willing to take the risk, take that first step, and then keep walking.

Weekly challenge:

Limit your social media time to 15 minutes a day.
