I have anointed you with My Spirit as a down payment of what is yet to come.

2 Corinthians 1:21-22 (WEB)
21 Now he who establishes us with you in Christ,
and anointed us, is God; 22 who also sealed us,
and gave us the down payment of the Spirit in our hearts.

It is amazing to think that God gave us His own Holy Spirit to anoint us and seal us with His very presence. The gift of His own heart is just a down payment of what is yet to come! In 1 Corinthians 13, Paul states that we only see in part, but one day we will see Him face-to-face. The proof of our citizenship in heaven is that God has placed His Spirit in the very core of our being now.

The NIV Bible states that He set His "seal of ownership" on us and put His Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. What an amazing promise! We belong to God. There is so much we have to look forward to for all eternity because of His desire to make us His own!

When I think of this promise, my prayer is that we will all grow increasingly sensitive to His loving presence already within us. May we all rejoice in the knowledge that Almighty God has given us His own Spirit as a down payment for what is yet to come!

Responsive Prayer:

Father, thank you for giving me the gift of your Spirit that dwells within me as a token of your love for me. I pray that I never take this for granted and that I always posture my heart to listen for your still small voice that resides within me. I ask that I become more sensitive to your loving presence today than ever before.

In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

You can enjoy freedom because Christ has set you free.

Galatians 5:1 (WEB)
Stand firm therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free,
and don’t be entangled again with a yoke of bo***ge.

This promise urges us to stand firm in the freedom that Christ has set us free to enjoy! This is not an option; it is a command. Another version of the Bible says that it is for the very sake of freedom that Christ has set us free. God loves it when we agree with Him and choose to live a life free from bo***ge and condemnation.

In all the letters of the New Testament, the saints are always referred to as new creations in Christ. There is no reason for us to retreat into the yoke of bo***ge we once lived in. Christ has set us free! So enjoy your freedom! Tell others how they can be free too!

Religion may attempt to keep us in bo***ge, but Jesus came to set us free. In John 8:36, Jesus says that we shall know the truth, and that truth will set us free. Anything that keeps us in captivity is not from God for our Heavenly Father loves freedom!

When I reflect on this promise, I am grateful for the freedom that Christ purchased for us. It is my prayer that we do not become entangled with the things that once kept us in bo***ge. We were all created to live freely, so enjoy your freedom!

***
Responsive Prayer:

Father, thank you that it is for the love of freedom that Christ has set me free. Help me to celebrate that freedom in my life today so that I don’t take back on my shoulders the heavy burdens of condemnation and shame that once kept me enslaved. I am a much-loved child of the living God, and as such, I am completely free!

In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

I have removed your sins from you as far as the east is from the west.

Psalm 103:12 (WEB)
As far as the east is from the west,
so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

How far is the east from the west? Since these two anchors point in polar opposite directions for all eternity, there is no greater way to express the farthest distance than from east to west. I love how God has used this analogy to illustrate the promise of what He has done with our sin. He has removed every speck of our sin from us as far as the east is from the west! They could not have been removed any further than that!

Many of us struggle with the constant, ever-present awareness of our sinful condition. Somehow, we believe that our sense of sin is pleasing to God, that we can maintain a posture of humility by remembering how wretched we are.

The very opposite is true! We are justified by our faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ, and we know by Hebrews 11:6 that it is our faith that pleases God. So the next time the enemy of your soul wants to remind you of all your past failures, declare this promise aloud... God has removed all my sins from me as far as the east is from the west!

Responsive Prayer:

Father, thank you for removing all my sins from me at a distance so vast that they can never return. I pray that this revelation of the removal of all my guilt and shame becomes profoundly real to me, allowing me to burst forth with joy, knowing that I am completely loved, forgiven, and accepted in the Beloved, both today and forever.

In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

I made you holy by the once for all sacrifice of My Son, Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 10:10 (WEB)
by which will we have been sanctified
through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

I love the finality of this promise. We are made holy by the once-and-for-all sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross. The price He paid two thousand years ago covers our past, present, and future sins. There is nothing else that needs to be paid or could be paid. As Jesus cried out on the cross, "It is finished!"

Hallelujah for such a promise! Our sanctification is secure for all eternity because of the finished work of our elder brother, Jesus Christ! As Paul says in Romans 8:1, there is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus! What a glorious promise.

Sometimes it is easy for us to waver between embracing the forgiveness that God has already bestowed upon us and experiencing feelings of guilt and shame. The blood of Jesus has resolved this matter once and for all! All we need to do is accept this free gift and live with the assurance that we could never add anything to the incredible, extravagant gift that God the Father has already given us.

When I reflect on the permanence of Jesus' sacrifice and how my redemption and sanctification are secured for eternity, it brings me reassuring peace and rest. I know that when God looks at me, He doesn't see all my sins and shortcomings; He sees me through the once-and-for-all finished sacrifice of the spotless Lamb of God. What good news!

Responsive Prayer:

Father, thank you that when you look at me, you see me as wholly acceptable in your sight, without spot or blemish. Not because of what I’ve done, but solely because of the once-and-for-all sacrifice that Jesus made on my behalf. I pray that the reality of this eternal truth would drive out all feelings of guilt and shame in my life today.

In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

My lovingkindness is more precious than life.

Psalm 63:3 (WEB)
Because your loving kindness is better than life,
my lips shall praise you.

In this promise, the psalmist declares God's amazing lovingkindness and emphasizes that His love is better than life itself. The writer further states that the only appropriate response to such a wonderful love is to live a life of loving God in return by presenting our bodies as living sacrifices.

Every person on this planet was created to respond to God's love. In 1 John 4:19, it says that we love because He first loved us. God is the ultimate initiator, and we are His ultimate responders. When we genuinely begin to receive His lovingkindness in every area of our lives, the only appropriate response is to love Him back with every fiber of our being and praise His wonderful name!

Our God and Father's desire is for us to live in His love every day of our lives and to be vessels through which His love can flow to us and then through us. The more I experience Papa's amazing, unconditional love for me, the more I resonate with this verse and declare that God's loving kindness is better than life!

Responsive Prayer:

Father, thank you that your lovingkindness is better than life itself. I pray that the revelation of your eternal affection for me goes deeper today than I have ever experienced, so that I might become an ever-expanding container of your goodness and an overflow of that same goodness to everyone I meet.

In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

I will not abandon you, for I am glad to make you my own.

1 Samuel 12:22 (WEB)
For Yahweh will not forsake his people for his great name’s sake,
because it has pleased Yahweh to make you a people to himself.

Many people live with a persistent fear of being abandoned at any moment. Some of us feel this way because people have disappointed us in the past, while others lack a deep sense of belonging to anything or anyone.

I love this promise because the LORD is settling the issue once and for all by declaring that He has purposed in His heart not to abandon us for the sake of His own great name. Isn't it good news to think that it doesn't depend on you and your good works... but on Him?

This Bible verse states that God is genuinely pleased to welcome you into His family, and for that reason alone, He has promised to always remain close by.

When I read this promise and think that I belong to God, it blows my mind. Why does He want me? Why am I so valued to Him? The reality is that it reflects His great heart for me and not my ability to earn or deserve His affection. The more I can believe that it is about God's love for me, rather than my love for Him, the more I will begin to experience the tangible reality of living in His love every day of my life.

I do not always live in the awareness of His love for me, as there is still a little orphan in my soul that sometimes strays from the truth that I belong to God. Perhaps you struggle with the same things. If so, my prayer for all of us is that we would understand that our Heavenly Father is pleased to make us a part of His family…forever!

Responsive Prayer:

Father, thank you for making me part of your family and for placing your own Spirit within me as a deposit to guarantee my everlasting inheritance. I pray that your love would consume any feelings of abandonment I struggle with and replace those feelings with a deep sense that I belong to the biggest, best family in the universe.

In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

I love you as deeply as a father loves his children.

Psalm 103:13 (WEB)
Like a father has compassion on his children,
so Yahweh has compassion on those who fear him.

The essence of this promise is that God the Father loves us as a loving father would love and show mercy to his own children. I am continually amazed by the ongoing analogies throughout the Bible that convey God’s desire for us to understand that He truly is a Father to us! Not just a 'father figure', but a real Dad!

Some of you may be reading this promise and recalling negative past experiences you've had with your father, shuddering at the thought that God would treat you the same way. This is one of the most common roadblocks many of us encounter in our journey to understand God as our Father.

It is very natural for us to project onto God many of the same life experiences we have had with our earthly fathers. Over the years, we have even heard comments from people who have said to us, "I have had one father, and I don't want another one!"

The truth is that God is the perfect Father, and He loves us completely and infinitely more than even the best earthly dad. Jesus came to reveal what His Father is truly like and to bring us into a genuine, authentic relationship with God as Father. If you don't feel safe relating to God as Father, ask Jesus to reveal to you what He is truly like, and He will be glad to do so.

Quite a few years ago, I created a short tribute celebrating the goodness of my Heavenly Dad. It is called... My Dad is the Best Dad in the Universe. To watch it, click here. You can even copy and paste the script, which lists all the verses I used to create this video.

Responsive Prayer:

Father, thank you for being the perfect father who loves me perfectly! Would your Holy Spirit dismantle any false perceptions of your true nature that have been imprinted on me by my own parents, and would you help me forgive them for not being the parents I needed? As I open my heart to your fathering love more than ever before, would you fill me to overflowing with your goodness today?

In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

When I open My hand, I provide for all that I have created.

Psalm 145:16 (WEB)
You open your hand,
and satisfy the desire of every living thing.

Consider this promise: When God opens His hand, He provides for everything He created! Sometimes, when I ask for daily provision, it feels as though I expect a big miracle. However, the truth is that fathers provide for their children. Since God is the perfect Father, He has committed to providing for all that He has made.

Unfortunately, we still witness unimaginable suffering worldwide. As far as I know, God has provided sufficient food to nourish every individual on the planet. The problem lies not with Him, but with those responsible for managing the Earth's resources.

If we were only willing to share the wealth of resources that God has given us, there would be no starvation. It isn't God who isn't providing; rather, it is a world full of orphan-hearted people who aren't willing to share what they have received.

When it comes to our daily provision, we need not look to our own resources for answers, but to the unlimited resources that come from heaven. May we all echo the prayer that Jesus taught us to pray to our Father, as taught in the Lord's Prayer, and say... "Give us this day our daily bread."

If Jesus said that we should ask our Father daily for provision, then we need to connect our faith with the expectation that He hears our prayers and will be faithful to provide... Just by opening His hand!

***
Responsive Prayer:

Father, thank you for faithfully providing for all you have created, simply because you are a good Father who loves to care for His children. I pray that I will not live in fear of lack, but that I would live a trusting life, knowing full well that if you feed the birds of the air and clothe the lilies of the field, you will certainly look after me too!

In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
