📢 New Article: “The Victory No One Applauds”

This past week I came across the following quote which resulted in this week’s article: “Defeating Goliath earns you applause, but forgiving Saul shows the fruits of your heart.” When David walked into the valley and faced Goliath, everyone could see the victory. The giant fell. Israel shouted. The enemy fled. It was the kind of moment that made a young shepherd famous (1 Samuel 17:45-54). But some of David’s greatest victories were not fought in the valley of Elah. They were fought in caves, in private moments, when no crowd was cheering and no army was watching (1 Samuel 24:1-7; 26:7-12).

David had more than one opportunity to take Saul’s life. Saul had hunted him, hated him, slandered him, and treated him like an enemy (1 Samuel 18:8-11; 19:1-2; 23:14). David could have justified revenge. He could have said, “Saul deserves this.” He could have listened to those around him who encouraged him to strike. Yet David refused to lift his hand against the Lord’s anointed (1 Samuel 24:4-6; 26:9-11).

That kind of restraint revealed something deeper than courage. It revealed character. It takes faith to face a giant, but it also takes faith to leave vengeance in the hands of God. It takes courage to stand before an enemy with a sword, but it takes spiritual maturity to show mercy to someone who has wronged you. Goliath tested David’s confidence in God’s power. Saul tested David’s confidence in God’s timing (1 Samuel 17:37; 24:12, 15).

Many people can admire boldness. Fewer recognize meekness. Many will applaud a visible victory. Fewer will notice when someone refuses bitterness, holds their tongue, forgives an offense, or chooses peace when retaliation seems easier (Proverbs 19:11; Ephesians 4:31-32; Colossians 3:13). But God sees those victories too (Hebrews 4:13).

The Christian life is not only measured by the giants we defeat, but also by the spirit we show toward those who hurt us. Jesus taught us to love our enemies, bless those who curse us, and pray for those who mistreat us (Matthew 5:44; Luke 6:27-28). That is not weakness. That is strength under the rule of God.

David’s victory over Goliath showed that he trusted God in battle. David’s mercy toward Saul showed that he trusted God with his heart.

There will be moments when our faith is seen by others. But there will also be moments when the greatest victory happens quietly within us. When we forgive instead of holding a grudge, when we show mercy instead of seeking revenge, when we trust God instead of taking matters into our own hands, we show the fruit of a heart shaped by Him (Galatians 5:22-23; Romans 12:17-21). Defeating Goliath may win applause, but forgiving Saul shows whether God is truly reigning within us.

“Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is Mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.” — Romans 12:19

Let me introduce you to our new Brother in Christ, Kerry! (5/31) 🙏

Kerry expressed his desire to be baptized for the remission of his sins (Acts 2:38).

Let’s rejoice together with Kerry’s decision to put on the body of Christ in baptism (Romans 6:3-4).

Welcome our new Brother in Christ!
To God be the glory! 🙏

📢 New Article: “The Future Begins Today”

“The consequences of today are determined by the actions of the past. To change your future, alter your decisions today” — Anonymous.

There is a great deal of truth in that simple statement. Much of what we experience today is connected to choices that were made yesterday. Habits do not form overnight. Character is not built in a moment. Spiritual strength does not appear by accident. In many ways, today is the harvest of seeds planted in days gone by.

The Bible teaches this principle clearly. Paul wrote, “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap” (Galatians 6:7). A farmer does not plant one kind of seed and expect a completely different crop. In the same way, a person cannot continually sow to the flesh and expect to reap spiritual peace. Choices have consequences. Decisions shape direction. The path we walk today often determines the place we arrive tomorrow.

This is a sobering truth because it reminds us that we cannot separate our present life from our past decisions. Some people are living with pain because of choices made long ago. Others are enjoying blessings because someone, perhaps even generations before them, chose faithfulness, sacrifice, and obedience. A godly home, a strong marriage, a good reputation, a tender conscience, and a faithful life are all shaped by repeated decisions made over time.

But this quote also contains hope: “To change your future, alter your decisions today.” We cannot go back and rewrite yesterday, but we can choose differently today. We cannot undo every consequence of the past, but we can begin planting better seed now. That is one of the beautiful truths of the gospel. God does not call us to remain prisoners of what we used to be. He calls us to repentance, renewal, and transformation.

Peter told those who had rejected Christ, “Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out” (Acts 3:19). Repentance is not merely feeling sorry about the past. It is a change of mind that leads to a change of life. It is the decision to stop walking away from God and begin walking toward Him. The future changes when the direction changes.

Many people want a better spiritual future, but they do not want to alter their present decisions. They want stronger faith without more time in God’s Word. They want a closer walk with God without prayer. They want victory over sin without removing temptation. They want heaven while still clinging to the world. But tomorrow will not be changed by wishful thinking. It is changed by faithful decisions made today.

If we want to be spiritually stronger tomorrow, we must choose spiritual discipline today. If we want our children to value worship tomorrow, we must show them its importance today. If we want a peaceful conscience tomorrow, we must obey the Lord today. If we want to finish faithfully, we must keep choosing faithfulness one step at a time.

Joshua understood the importance of present decisions. He told Israel, “Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve” (Joshua 24:15). Notice the urgency: “this day.” Not someday. Not when life slows down. Not when it becomes convenient. Today. The future of Israel would be shaped by the decision they made in the present.

The same is true for us. The person we become tomorrow is being shaped by the choices we make today. Every act of obedience matters. Every prayer matters. Every Bible study matters. Every temptation resisted matters. Every word spoken in kindness matters. Every decision to put God first matters.

Thankfully, with God, today can become a turning point. A life headed in the wrong direction can be redirected. A weak faith can be strengthened. A damaged influence can begin to be restored. A sinful past can be forgiven through the blood of Christ. The future does not have to be ruled by the failures of yesterday when we surrender today to the Lord.

So, we should ask ourselves: What am I sowing right now? What habits am I forming? What direction am I choosing? What kind of future am I preparing for my soul?

The consequences of today may have been shaped by yesterday, but by the grace of God, tomorrow can be shaped by what we choose today. Let us choose wisely. Let us choose faithfully. Let us choose Christ today, and every day. – djdickerson
