"A sermon is not a sermon until it is a delivered or preached sermon. Sermons are not intended to compositions for reading; rather, they are declarations in which the communicator, the thing being communicated, and the recipients of the communication are involved in an unusual triadic relationship. Preaching is a word event. The language of preaching ought to be different from other kinds of language. It is not merely a cognitive, cerebral, informing task; it creates a speech event. After that speech event, those hearing pulpit discourses ought not to be the same. . . . On paper a sermon is a creation; on Sunday morning it ought to be a resurrection."

A few glimpses from last weekend’s Expositors Collective Training Weekend in Temecula.

We gathered at Reliance Church for two days of worship, teaching, coaching, cohort groups, sermon practice, feedback, and fellowship - all with the goal of helping Bible teachers grow in their personal study and public proclamation of God’s Word.

Thank you to everyone who came, served, taught, hosted, led groups, asked thoughtful questions, and encouraged one another along the way. These weekends are always about more than content alone. They are about opening Scripture together, sharpening one another, and growing as servants of Christ and His church.

Videos from the main sessions and panel discussions will be released in the future, but for now, we’re grateful for a rich and rewarding few days in Temecula.
