Mission Gathering exists for those who have grown tired of religious messages that divide more than they heal. We image a different way — one that focuses less on who’s in or out and more on grace for all. Instead of using faith to shame or diminish, we choose to remind people of a deeper truth: you are a beloved child of God. At Mission Gathering, all are welcome, across race, age, sexual orientation, and creed.

Sheep + Goats
It’s such a common phrase, we use it in everyday vernacular. But it started as a story told to a small group of radical rebels who failed more often than they got it “right”—and a story that ends in beauty and harmony that has since been beaten into a shiv.
Most folks who grew up in the church have been terrorized by this story: told that we’ll stand before some terrifying giant judgment and better hope to God we did everything perfectly, OR ELSE.
But the real theme of this third movement of Jesus’ last sermon is a love so deep it results in a kind of knowing that anything but love, faithful neighbor care, and readiness is comically unthinkable.
Looking forward to engaging with this sermon anew—hearing the invitation into wisdom, knowing, and justice for all of fellow humanity.

The End of All Things
There is always a guy… on a corner…they usually have a sign…they want us all to know the “End is Near!” It is a threat. It is intense. It often is religious abuse. And yet…many of these street corner ‘prophets’ (and even Homer) get their inspiration from…Jesus.
Wait? Jesus?
Yes, this week we will dive into what Jesus actually (let the reader understand the bold, italics, and underline) says. Jesus warns his disciples about what’s to come AND he also pictures something hidden in the old passing away, a kernel…something new is being born.
I look forward to talking through the end of the world…as we know it!

The “Woe” passages of Matthew have long been used/abused to ‘scare the hell’ out of people. As if that would make us love God’s kingdom. But the very center and heart of these woes are not scary but deeply loving only the way a mother can Image. 🐔 🐥

🌈🦄 SAN DIEGO PRIDE 2026 — WHAT A DAY! 🦄🌈
Sun on our shoulders, glitter in our hair, and SO much love in the air. We marched. We danced. We hugged more strangers-turned-friends than we can count. MG showed up with love and joy and…unicorns!
The best part wasn’t the parade (though — wow, the parade). It was standing at our booth, looking people in the eye, and getting to say: you are loved, exactly as you are, no asterisks. That’s not a slogan for us. That’s the whole point. Jesus didn’t tiptoe around people on the margins — he ran toward them with arms wide open. MG did the same. Rainbow flags in one hand, radical love in the other.
To everyone who stopped by, cried a little, laughed a lot, took a sticker, told us your story, or just needed someone to say “I see you and you’re not too much” — thank you. You made our whole year.
San Diego Pride, you were pure magic. Same time next year? We’ll bring more unicorns. ✨🦄🌈

Jesus calls his disciples to go forward even in the face of great strife, darkness, and downright evil. It is a unique and terrible pain to be called ‘of the devil’ as you faithfully and lovingly seek to follow Jesus. Yet—it is a story even Jesus experienced.
But the holy and redemptive upside right wonder of it all is that Jesus, all-powerful Creator, doesn’t meet their evil with darkness—he merely continues on with the work he has always been about—healing, curing, sharing good news.
And in that, we have our way forward—though hate and violence abound, we are never to match that energy. We are instead welcomed into a Kingdom whose rhythm is love and whose melody is mercy. There is no other song for this King. And somehow, through those radical acts of light—His very Kingdom comes—may we continue to pray and work that day into today.

We're working on our purpose statement. (Yes, we crowdsource things. We're that kind of community.)

Here's where we've landed so far: MG is a quirky, funky, alternative community welcoming all to the table of grace — where we eat with Jesus, love generously, and keep pulling up chairs for everyone we meet.

That's what we're building at MG. And you're invited this Sunday to work this into the earth—LET’S TALK.

Doubting Thomas gets a bad rap but notice Jesus' radical acceptance. Jesus meets us in our doubt, rage, and agony, offering comfort and presence. Learn about unconditional welcome and the power of faith.
