God, we remember today. Twenty-five years since September 11th. The lives lost, the families who still carry it, the first responders who ran in and are still paying for it in their bodies now. We remember what fear made of us in the years since too, and we ask for the courage to choose neighbor over suspicion. Hold everyone touched by violence today, here and everywhere else it's happening right now. Give us memory that stays honest, and hope that doesn't ask us to forget. Amen.

Prayer Prompt: Begin with a moment of silence for lives lost to violence. Then name one place in our world where you long for peace.

Pray: God of peace, receive our grief and turn us away from fear, hatred, and violence. Make us people who practice peace where we are.

On this 25th anniversary of the attacks on 9/11, we share this prayer from Discipleship Ministries:

"On this day of solemn remembrance:
May we honor the lives that were lost in this tragic act.
May we give thanks for those who served and saved, rendered aid and assistance.
May we give comfort to those who live with loss.
May we seek justice and peace where it is within our ability,
and rely on you when the ability escapes us.

May we build what has been torn down.
May we mend what has been broken.
May live Your love when hate seems to reign.
May we bear witness to the cause of peace. Amen."
