Good afternoon friends
Grace to you and peace in the name of our Saviour Jesus Christ.
On this overcast Wednesday afternoon, I know all of us here in southeastern Colorado are hoping for rain. Let it be so.
Here at the First Church of La Junta, we’re also preparing for the holiest days of the year ahead this weekend as we remember the death and then celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus.
Let me just run you through all that is happening,
Beginning tomorrow, Thursday, April 2, from 7-9 p.m. when we host an Easter Escape Room for Youth. That’s for youth grades 6 through 12. We’ll have pizza and then unlock the Easter Escape Room.
On Friday, April 3, at 3:30 p.m., here in the sanctuary we’ll be doing a free showing of the movie, The Lion the Witch and the wardrobe here in the sanctuary. It’s open to kids of all ages. Kids elementary aged and up are welcome to be dropped off. We’ll have supervision. Older kids, we’d love to have a family member stay with you.
Also on Friday, a little later at 6, we’ll have dinner downstairs in the Life Center, and then we’ll come back here to the sanctuary at 7 for communion and our Service of Darkness. Please be aware that this will be the only time we serve communion during April. If you would like us to bring home communion to you, please let me know.
Then, on Saturday, April 4, from 8 a.m. t 8 p.m., the sanctuary will be open for prayer during our Prayer Vigil. It’s a time of prayer and contemplation as we reflect upon Christ’s sacrifice and prepare to welcome him back.
Finally, of course, on Easter Morning, we’ll return at 9 a.m. for Easter Brunch, followed by our Easter Egg Hunt at 9:30. It all come to a climax at 10 in our Worship Celebration. We’re calling this year’s Easter Celebration The Lion and the Empty Grave, borrowing again from the C. S. Lewis classic The Lion the Witch and the wardrobe. We’ll celebrate with our praise band, special music, a message from me, and finish on some classic hymns. Kids, you can even get your picture taken with Aslan.
Please join us. All of our celebrations are open to the community. Whether you have your own church home already, or you’re looking, or you’re just feeling God’s tug to participate, you have a place here.
We welcome you, as we welcome the risen Christ. We hope to see you soon!
