Merry Christmas! Enjoy this favorite that was always part of every Christmas Mass for the Gloria Dei Choir at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church - "A Christmas Lullaby" by John Rutter. Peace, love, and hope in the Christ Child on this Christmas Day. (Recorded during Lessons and Carols, December 14, 2018.)

We are so proud of our resident rocket scientist, composer, and Bass from the OLG GDC, Todd J. Barber, who will have two of his Christmas compositions performed in a concert conducted by Donald Brineger this Tuesday at St. Andrew’s in Pasadena! One of his pieces being performed is his arrangement of “What Child is This” that we have sung every year at the end of the Christmas Season (usually on Epiphany) every year for decades, accompanied as always by the lovely and talented flautist, Sara Andon. The other is an arrangement of “O Holy Night” that the GDC has also sung before. Congrats to Todd and we hope some can make it to this concert!

O God Beyond All Praising
We worship you today
And sing the love amazing
That songs cannot repay
For we can only wonder at ev'ry gift you send
At blessings without number and mercies without end:
We lift our hearts before you
And wait upon your word,
We honor and adore you
Our great and mighty Lord.

Happy Thanksgiving from the Gloria Dei Choir - although we are unable to be there making music together right now at Our Lady of Guadalupe, we celebrate the music we have made in praise of our Lord Jesus Christ, Our Lady of Guadalupe, and in celebration of our liturgies and special events at our church. This video is from the recent 50th Anniversary celebration of two of our beloved choir members, Rick Richard Shubsda Jr. and Mary Jane Shubsda. It was also a popular anthem and hymn that we enjoyed singing frequently. Wishing all blessings without number and a joyous celebration of blessings, family, friends, and loved ones this Thanksgiving and always.

Can it be 20 years ago?!

In 2003, the Gloria Dei Choir went to New York City and sang the Fauré Requiem under the direction of John Rutter at Carnegie Hall and sang for a Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral with our Pastor concelebrating. What a wonderful trip that was!

Choir party at the home of Rick and MJ Shubsda to celebrate the (almost) end of our season! We’ll be celebrating Corpus Christi and the Mass of Thanksgiving for (soon to be) Father David Moreno next Sunday at the 10am Mass with Bishop Kevin Vann as our last official Sunday of the choir season for the Gloria Dei Choir, but we’ll be making a special appearance on July 2nd at the 10am Mass to welcome in our new Administrator of our Parish, Father Will Goldin!

This Sunday saw and heard the triumphant return of the Gloria Dei Choir to the 10am Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe for the Feast of Christ the King. We sang “The King Shall Come When Morning Dawns” arranged by David N. Johnson and “Psalm 150” by Lloyd Larson. Praise the Lord!

Yesterday, we said a final goodbye to Terry Kennedy, who had been a Bass in the Gloria Dei Choir for several years. His Memorial Mass was the first mass for which our Gloria Dei Choir has sung together in 20 months, since the pandemic began. Our main anthem was “How Can I Keep From Singing,” a fitting tribute for this wonderful man. We know he was singing with us from the heavenly choirs. Our love and prayers are with his family and all who knew him.
