Holy Trinity Lutheran Church

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church A congregation of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod located in LaGrange, Kentucky Rev. Jefferson which would serve as a temporary worship facility.

On January 31, 1980 an ad hoc committee met to lay plans for a get acquainted meeting of all area Lutherans interested in forming a congregation in Oldham County. During the month of March meetings were held to organize and arrange for services. Robert Brockhoff, resident pastor at Cedar Lake Lodge, would serve as the developing pastor. Various Lutheran churches donated furnishings to be used by t

he new mission. The first worship service was held on April 6, 1980 at the Oldham County Middle School in Buckner with 49 in attendance. The congregation moved the next week to a rented building located at 600 E. April 13 was the first service in the new facility, and after the service, the name Holy Trinity was chosen. June saw Holy Trinity's first baptism; July the Constitution was accepted; August the by-laws were accepted. On April 5, 1981, Holy Trinity's members, numbering 56 communicants, signed the charter document. At this time the total membership was 82. In September 1981, five acres of land was purchased from the Priest family on South Highway 53, across from the Cherry House. In 1982 we received an grant from the Lutheran Women's Missionary League to help pay off the property and the mortgage burning took place in January 1983. In April 1983 the members of Holy Trinity received word that Seminarian William Lahrman had received their call to be their pastor. In June they received the official acceptance of the call from him. William Lahrman was installed on July 24, 1983 as Holy Trinity's first full-time pastor, In June 1984 discussion began on beginning our building program. The next year saw Holy Trinity seeking assistance, talking with representatives from 'Laborers for Christ' and getting started. The voting members moved to go ahead in June 1985 using Larry Thomas as the general contractor and the 'Laborers for Christ' concept. The building blueprints were accepted and ground breaking ceremonies were held on August 18th. Good weather allowed many hours of hard work by volunteer labor from Holy Trinity, their friends and other congregations. The cornerstone was laid on November 24, 1985. The building was finished and Holy Trinity held a Service of Consecration on February 2, 1986 as they began to worship in their new facility. In May of 1987, Pastor Roehrs became the Pastor of Holy Trinity and though his time was a positive experience, he retired in September of 1990. Michael Kane became the 3rd pastor of HTLC. He served from June 1991 thru June 1995 when he accepted a call to First English Lutheran Church in Spencer, Iowa. During the pastoral vacancy, Rev. Dale Reusch was the visiting Pastor several Sundays and the church soon called him as pastor and he was installed in November 1995. In 2006, under Pastor Reusch's leadership, the congregation formed Holy Trinity Preschool for children ages 3-4. Pastor Reusch resigned in July 2010. Curtis Peters and ordination candidate, John Fraiser served during the vacancy, and in February 2011, the congregation voted to call John Fraiser as pastor. John Fraiser was ordained in April and was serving as pastor at Holy Trinity until he left the ministry in August of 2016. In August of 2017, the members of Holy Trinity voted to extend a call to Rev. Ben Micheel to be their Pastor. Micheel accepted the call and on September 10, 2017, Rev. Micheel was installed as Pastor at Holy Trinity.

Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

I wanted to send a reminder about the details for Larry's funeral service on Friday. On Friday, we will begin with a visitation at 10 AM. The funeral service will begin at 11 AM and a luncheon will follow. All of these events will happen at Holy Trinity.

Anyone who will be dropping-off food can do so early. Sue Draper will be here by 9:15 AM and I should probably be here a bit earlier. If you need to drop something off before then, please text me and let me know.

The funeral service will be live-streamed on Holy Trinity's page (https://www.facebook.com/LaGrangeKY1985) , beginning 15 minutes before the service begins.

Thank you for your continued prayers for Joni and for all of Larry's family. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.

In Christ, Pastor Reed

Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

I've been notified by Joni today that she's spoken to the funeral home about arrangements for Larry. Currently they're planning on having Larry cremated and scheduling a Memorial Service for him in June. This timing will help their family make arrangements to be in town and help their grandchildren as the school year ends. There are still moving parts, so when we have a more specific update, we'll let you know.

I've been asked by some members about food for Joni and their family. As of right now, I've reached-out to ask her and am awaiting her response. As with the arrangements, I'll let you know.

Thanks for your prayers and concerns for Larry's family in this time. I am certain that Larry's family appreciates you for all you're doing.

In Christ, Pastor Reed

Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

Our brother in Christ, Larry Heilgendorf, fell asleep in Jesus last night. Joni let me know that the family will be making arrangements on Tuesday morning and that they will have a graveside service for Larry. I will pass along more details when I have them.

Please keep Joni and all of their family in your prayers in the days and weeks ahead. Thank you!

In Christ, Pastor Reed
