Pastor Matt here. As we celebrate America’s 250th birthday this weekend, it’s important that we think about what kind of nation we are becoming. This week at La Feria First we are going to be exploring the example of one of our greatest countrymen, Mr. Fred Rogers. Personally, I wish our nation was a little more like Mr. Rogers’ (or Daniel Tiger’s) neighborhood.

Let me share something I’ve been thinking about—and trying to practice—lately.

Whenever I find myself interacting with another person, I’m trying to remember to pause for just a moment and wonder:

How can I love this person in a way that leaves them more free?

More free to be themselves.
More free to hope.
More free to heal.
More free to laugh.
More free to become the person God is calling them to be.

We don’t always have the power to solve someone’s problems. And even when we can help, the effects of pain or hardship don’t simply disappear. We may not always know the right words—or have any words at all. But we always have the opportunity to offer compassion, to be present with people in their experience, to help carry the load, and to leave them a little lighter than we found them.

I think it’s a question worth carrying around. Maybe it will be for you, too.

Join us Sunday as we celebrate Holy Communion and remember the legacy of Mr. Rogers. We hope you’ll bring a dish to share and stick around after worship for a potluck lunch and a screening of “It’s A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.”

This summer, we're exploring the stories that shape us by pairing one of Jesus' parables with a beloved family film each week. After worship, we'll gather around the table for a simple lunch before settling in to enjoy the movie together.

A story about unlikely people, unexpected gifts, and the surprising places where grace can be found.

Whether you've seen it a dozen times or never at all, we'd love for you to join us.

Join us tomorrow as we celebrate the RESURRECTION OF THE LORD!

Worship begins with our SonRose service in the pavilion (weather permitting) at 8:15 AM.
Then, stick around for a potluck break-fast as we share fellowship together.
Finally, our Service of Resurrection will begin at 10:00 AM in our Sanctuary.
The two services are unique, so consider yourself invited and encouraged to come early and stay for it all as we celebrate together that CHRIST IS ALIVE!

This is just to remind you that Holy Week services begin tonight. We will have our Maundy Thursday service of foot washing and Holy Communion at 6:30. Tomorrow from 3-7:30 PM the church will be open for a Stations of the Cross experience. Also, we still have eighteen slots available for the Holy Saturday Prayer Vigil. I want to encourage you to participate in as much of this as you can. When we gather at the table on Maundy Thursday, sit with the grief of Good Friday, and then come together again on Sunday morning, we begin to experience the story the way the first disciples did. We see how love, sacrifice, and hope unfold together. And somehow, when we walk that road together the joy of Easter becomes deeper and more meaningful.

Holy Week invites us to slow down… to watch, to wait, to pray.

This year, we hope you will join us in a 35-hour Easter Prayer Vigil from Good Friday evening all the way through Easter morning!🙏

You can sign up to pray during one of the time slots, and/or come and be present during our open prayer times on Holy Saturday:

🕊 7:00–7:30 AM
🕊 12:00–1:00 PM
🕊 3:15–3:45 PM
🕊 7:00–7:30 PM

The sanctuary will be open for quiet prayer and reflection during these times—come as you are, stay as long as you’re able.

This isn’t about filling slots… but it is about showing up for one another. It’s about holding space for hope, even in the waiting.
