The situation did not look good. Not good at all.

We were on day 3 of a 5 day hike in the Colorado Rockies.

And Trey was beyond exhausted. With sleep deprivation, altitude sickness, carrying 50lbs on his back, and just plain ol' worn out legs, he could not go any longer.

We discussed rescue efforts or just one of us hiking him back down the mountain.

But something else happened. Something extraordinary.

The other 11 guys circled around Trey and dropped their packs. Then, one by one, they each reached inside Trey's 70L pack and retrieved an item to carry for him.

Within 7 minutes, Trey's pack was empty while everyone else had divided up the weight.

I haven't seen grit expressed in a person like I did in Trey that day. He pushed through the pain and summited a 13,200' mountain the next morning.

I'm convinced it was the agape love his brothers showed to Trey that infused a strength in him that he didn't realize he had. That's the kind of love Jesus said to give to your brothers--

--to carry his load.
--to bear his burden.

This was one of my favorite times in the mountains.

This is precisely what men need today.

He said to make disciples—and these disciples are to make more disciples…

…and He will build His church.

This requires relationship + intentionality.

It’s impossible, however, to build those kinds of relationships when we continue to wear our masks (facades) when we gather.

You know what I mean? We pretend all is good in our hearts. We put up a front that doesn’t match what’s really happening on the inside, or in our marriages, or in our families, or the condition of our walks with Jesus.

How can we be discipled to be more like Jesus when we fake out other believers who are called to influence us? And why do we do this?

How can we disciple other believers when we pretend to have it all together? Again, why do we do this?

Can you identify why it’s easy to wear our masks when we gather?

Can you think of an environment where we would feel free to remove said masks, thus removing an obstacle that prevents us from obeying Jesus by making disciples?

Spiritual warfare is not just about overcoming trials, temptations, and hard times brought on by illness, financial stress, and bad relationships.

Spiritual warfare occurs when we rattle the gate of hell by advancing the Kingdom of God, invading the world with His gospel with love—despite the typical hardships of life.

It’s true. Gonna be a great day!

He simply said, “Go make disciples.”

disciple: (noun) one who follows after another with the purpose of imitating the life of the one being followed

What are the top 3 things that currently hinder believers (you) to follow this command?

When we relentlessly
trust in God,
we walk securely
each day.
Fear does not
overcome us,
because nothing can
truly harm us.

What is the object of your trust?

“Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.”

James 1:12 is motivational to us to endure temptation. This is one thing I have the privilege of talking about with 20 other men at a campout at Enchanted Rock State Park this weekend!

I cherish the times spent with brothers out in the wilderness, roughing it and sharing and encouraging each other regarding how the Word of God is making us more like Jesus!

Loving God Under Trials - Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.

Just finished a 4-night/5-day backpacking adventure in the Rockies of Powderhorn, CO with some of the best guys I know! We summitted a 13er which was hard and glorious!

Troy has become one of my best friends and partner in ministry. The way God uses him to influence others to follow Jesus is encouraging and inspiring to me.

Do hard things with your pals. Challenge yourself to go further and higher than you think you can go, and inspire others to go with you!
