How We Got Here
Grace’s youth ministry has been going on for longer than I know of. I know we’ve had some great youth pastors in the past, and that tradition had continued even to the transition of that position being a “family” pastor role.
But, from my (Pastor Paul’s) perspective, here’s the story of the team we have now. I inherited two fantastic small group leaders when I got here. Amory Mumbauer has been a fantastic small group leader for girls in this age group, and Josh Kline has been the same on the guys side! We also picked up Josiah Wendling and Rich Bell a few summers ago, and they have both strengthened our ministry to boys! Becky Snyder and McKenzie Eberly joined us a few years ago; and they too have brought depth and breadth to the ministry to teenage girls. Dana (then Burkholder) Wendling joined us a few summers ago and really boosted our ministry with girls.
It’s an amazing team. And it’s been great to see kids come to our group as wide-eyed middle schoolers and grow into mature high schoolers! The transitions are amazing. Like our current seniors were in the seventh grade when I got here. It’s always mind-boggling.
In the time we’ve been together, we’ve expanded what we do on a Wednesday night to make room for extended small group time and have worship and multiple communicators (Josiah, Amory, Rich, Becky, and me)-- and we’ve added “new traditions” like The Pumpkin Hunt, Winter Meltdown, and our summer Dunkin’ Small Group.
