Today is Maudy Thursday!!!
The word "maundy" comes from an old Latin word that means "command." It's called Maundy Thursday because during the Last Supper, Jesus gave his disciples a new commandment, which was to love one another as he had loved them.
On Maundy Thursday, Christians remember the Last Supper. Last Sunday we talked about some of the things we eat now that Jesus ate so many years ago. We ate some of the foods they would have eaten during the last supper, like olives, hummus, pita, and grapes. Instead of wine we had drank some grape soda. Bold decisions were made! The kids were suprised even 2000 years later, some things havenโt changed.
In some churches, there are special services or ceremonies held on Maundy Thursday to remember this important event in Christianity. People might also do acts of kindness or service for others, following Jesus's example of love and service to others.
So, Maundy Thursday is a day for Christians to remember Jesus's Last Supper and his commandment to love one another. It's an important part of Holy Week and leads up to Easter Sunday, when Christians celebrate Jesus's resurrection.
