When Zeal Turns Dangerous
Read: Acts 9:1–2

Saul was not hostile to faith; he was hostile because of his faith. Deeply convinced he was defending God’s honor, he became willing to hunt down, imprison, and destroy those he saw as a threat. History—and our own lives—show how easily sincere belief can slide into harshness, dehumanization, or self-righteous anger.

God invites us to examine not just what we believe, but how our beliefs shape the way we treat others. Passion is not the problem; it’s passion unexamined and unsubmitted to God’s love.

Reflection Question:
Where might my convictions—about faith, politics, or morality—be tempting me to see people as “problems to fix” instead of neighbors to love?

This week, we wrap up our Faithful and Flawed series by looking at the dramatic conversion story of Saul (later known as Paul). We talk about the dangers of religious extremism and the importance of humility in our life of faith.

Planting What We May Not See
Scripture: Galatians 6:9; Hebrews 11:13

Reflection: Jeremiah planted seeds of truth and repentance that he never fully got to see grow into renewal. Many of God’s servants throughout Scripture lived and died “not having received the promises,” but trusting the One who made them. We are part of a story larger than our lifetimes, and God’s faithfulness is not limited to what we personally experience or measure. Our role is to keep planting, speaking, serving, and loving, knowing that God can bring a harvest in God’s time.

Question: What “seeds” is God asking you to plant today, even if someone else will see the harvest?

This Sunday we’ll look at Saul’s dramatic encounter with Jesus in Acts 9 and how God’s grace can redirect even our most dangerous certainties toward love, humility, and healing.

Worship starts at 9:30. We'll save you a seat!

Faithful in Hard Places
Scripture: Jeremiah 1:10; Jeremiah 20:7–9

Reflection: Jeremiah’s assignment is not comfortable: he is appointed “to pluck up and to pull down…to build and to plant.” His ministry is long, painful, and often rejected, yet the word of God becomes like a fire in his bones that he cannot hold in. Faithfulness does not always look like visible success or smooth circumstances; sometimes it means staying obedient in hard, thankless places. God’s call shapes who we are, not just what we do.

Question: Where is God inviting you to remain faithful, even though you may not see quick results or appreciation?

God Equips the Called
Scripture: Jeremiah 1:9; 2 Corinthians 3:5–6

Reflection: When Jeremiah protests that he cannot speak, God touches his mouth and puts God’s own words there. God does not wait until Jeremiah feels ready; God equips Jeremiah as he says yes to the call.

Scripture consistently shows that God’s call comes with God’s empowerment, even when we see only our limitations. Our task is not to muster our own adequacy, but to trust that God will supply what is needed for what God asks.

Question: In what area of your life do you need to shift from focusing on your limitations to trusting God’s ability to equip you?

Ever feel like that quiet voice in your head is holding you back? "You're not qualified. You're too young. You'll fail." The prophet Jeremiah heard those same whispers when God called him to speak truth to power during one of Israel's darkest hours.

But here's the breakthrough: Before Jeremiah was even born, God had already formed him, known him, consecrated him, and appointed him for a specific purpose. God didn't wait until Jeremiah felt ready. God equipped him along the way, touching his mouth and saying, "I have put my words in your mouth."

The same is true for you. God's call on your life didn't start when you finally got your act together. It began before you took your first breath. When fear whispers "you can't," God promises "I am with you." That's enough to take the next step.
What call have you been talking yourself out of? It's time to live into who you were meant to be.

Naming Our Fears
Scripture: Jeremiah 1:6–8

Reflection: Jeremiah responds to God’s call with an honest objection: “I do not know how to speak, for I am only a boy.” God does not shame Jeremiah for his fear, but gently redirects him: “Do not be afraid…for I am with you.”

Often, our “good reasons” why we can’t do something are really ways of naming our fears. God invites us to bring those fears into the light, not to be dismissed, but to be met with presence and promise.

Question: What “reasonable objection” have you been using to hold back from something God may be calling you to do?

Formed and Known
Scripture: Jeremiah 1:4–5

Reflection: Before Jeremiah ever spoke a word, God had already formed, known, consecrated, and appointed him. This reminds us that God’s work in our lives begins long before we are aware of it, and that our worth is rooted in God’s intention, not in our performance.

When we feel inadequate, it helps to remember that we are not an accident or an afterthought, but part of God’s purposeful design. Today, rest in the truth that you are known more deeply than you know yourself and loved more fully than you can imagine.

Question: Where in your life right now do you need to remember that God has formed, known, and set you apart with intention?
