Matthew 9:36–10:8 reveals Jesus' deep compassion for the crowds, recognizing them as sheep without a shepherd in need of guidance. His empathy prompts action as he commissions his disciples to spread the good news, heal the sick, and bring hope.

This passage challenges us to reflect on our own responsiveness to the needs of those around us. Like the disciples, we are called to use our gifts and resources to serve others, recognizing that we are not alone in this mission. God equips us with the strength and support needed to make a difference.

In summary, this scripture invites us to embody Jesus’ compassion, to serve those in need, and to share hope and healing in our communities. It’s a call to engage actively in the mission of love and service.

Words cannot describe the joy and gratitude I have experienced over the last almost 17 years serving you at the Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. Your faith and love are humbling and inspiring. Meister Eckhart said, "If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is 'Thank you', it will be enough. I don't think I could ever say thank you enough for all of you, but I want you to know that I end my time at the Cathedral filled with gratitude to God for each of you and that you will remain in my prayers.

In the words of St. Paul, "I give thanks to my God at every remembrance of you, praying always with joy in my every prayer for all of you, because of your partnership for the gospel from the first day until now. I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work in you will continue to complete it until the day of Christ Jesus." (Phil 1:3-6)

I know that I am a better priest, pastor, and Christian because of you. Please pray for me and know that I look forward to welcoming you in South Pittsburg and Dunlap.

In Christ,

Fr. David

Mark your calendar this weekend, June 13–14, as we gather to honor Father David during his final weekend at the Cathedral. He'll be celebrating all the Masses, and after each Mass, we will host a warm and joyful reception in the Cathedral Hall. This is a wonderful opportunity for all of us to express our gratitude and share heartfelt farewells with Father David. Let’s come together and make this a memorable send-off!

Following that, we’ll continue the spirit of celebration on June 20–21 for Father Martin’s final weekend. Receptions will once again be held after the Masses, giving us all a chance to thank Father Martin for his dedicated service and to wish him the very best in his new journey.

Let’s fill these weekends with love, laughter, and community as we celebrate the incredible contributions of our priests!
