The Apostle John was quite an amazing theologian. In his later years, when the Apostle wrote his first letter to the church during their struggle with the heretical movement of the Gnostics (the Docetists to be more exact), he declared towards the latter end of the letter that “God is love.” This is a profound statement by the Apostle. Notice that John does not say “God is loving,” or that “love is God” but, rather, that “God is love.”

What this statement entails is that YHWH in His very being is love! In other words, if God were to have love but not be love in being and essence, then He could be manipulated by some power that is outside of who He is (or in this case, love.) If God could be manipulated or changed by some force outside of Him, this would demonstrate that YHWH is not God because there would be some element or force that is greater than Him. However, that is not the case because God makes it clear that He alone is God and there is no other like Him in existence (Isaiah 45:22).

The truth is that with God, there is no variation in who He is because of change and all of His attributes are one with His being such as love, hate, mercy, grace, wrath, etc. He is the supreme form of love.....because He is love.

His greatest act of love was taking on the form of a servant to live the perfect life for you and to die on the cross for your sins in order to satisfy His wrath. Receive Him as Lord this day.

"Being justified by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus." - Romans 3:24.

Scripture describes salvation in 3 tenses:

The past via "Justification".
The Present via "Sanctification".
The Future via "Glorification".

God saves the believer from the condemnation of sin at the moment of our conversion where He forensically justifies us, or declares us legally right with Him positionally.

God saves the believer from the power of sin in our lives by setting us apart from the world, giving us a new nature, and continually growing us in conformity to Christ.

Finally, God will save us from not only the power of sin but also, it's presence by perfecting the good work in us that He started by calling us home.

He is mighty to save!

The difference between "ministry" and "humanitarian work" is the Gospel. No Gospel, no ministry.

"What a mercy it is that, it is not your hold of Christ that saves you, but His hold of you." -Charles Spurgeon

Psalm 37:23–24: "The steps of a man are established by the Lord, and He delights in his way. When he falls, he will not be hurled headlong, because the Lord is the One who holds his hand."

We often find ourselves thinking that to be humble, we must think of ourselves as "nothing". That couldn't be further from the truth! If you're in Christ, you're of value, not worthless by any means.

I love this quote from William Wiersbe that sums up what true and godly humility really is: Selflessness over selfishness, NOT self-deprecation.

"Humility isn't thinking poorly of ourselves; it's simply not thinking of ourselves at all but making God everything. The humble servant thinks only of God's will and God's glory, not his or her own inadequacy, success, or failure." - William Wiersbe.

Mankind's greatest problem is that God is good.

"Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things which have not been done, saying, ‘My purpose will be established, and I will accomplish all My good pleasure; calling a bird of prey from the east, the man of My purpose from a far country. Truly I have spoken; truly I will bring it to pass. I have planned it, surely I will do it."
- Isaiah 46:10-11.

"I know that You can do all things, And that no purpose of Yours can be thwarted" - Job 42:2.

"Whatever the Lord pleases, He does, in Heaven and in earth, in the seas and in all deeps." Psalm 135:6

No plan of God's is ever in danger of being thwarted. If anything or anyone could endanger the plans of God, He wouldn't be God...
