Beyond Bunnies, Brunch, and Easter Baskets
It happens every spring.
Families gather. Outfits are picked. Baskets are filled with chocolate. Brunch is served. Pictures are snapped. Egg hunts ensue.
And maybe, for a fleeting moment, someone pauses and asks:
"What are we actually celebrating?"
You don't have to be deeply religious to sense it—there's something ancient underneath all the modern layers of our culture's celebration of Easter. Something bigger than bunnies and brunch. There is something more meaningful than baskets and photo ops.
Easter is everywhere. But where did it all come from?
You may be surprised to learn that Easter is only on the calendar worldwide and here in America because something truly world-changing happened almost 2,000 years ago.
Not a myth. Not a metaphor.
A man who claimed to be God in the flesh—Jesus of Nazareth—was crucified on a Roman cross and then rose from the dead.
His followers couldn't stay silent about what they saw.
An empty tomb. A living Savior. Hope for the hopeless.
That single event—the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ—changed history.
It's why the early Christians met together to worship God, face persecution with peace, and spread worldwide the good news of the gospel that there is forgiveness of your sins in Jesus.
Jesus didn't just inspire people.
He conquered death.
He didn't rise to give us good feelings once a year.
He rose to give dead hearts new life—to reconcile sinners to God.
That's the hope our world still longs for. And it's the hope behind every Easter lily, egg hunt, family brunch, and pastel shirt—even if we've forgotten why people started celebrating.
Every Sunday Is Resurrection Sunday.
You might not know that many churches throughout history, including Christ Church here in Knoxville, celebrate Jesus' sinless life, death, resurrection, ascension, and current reign every Sunday.
Every week, we gather not to celebrate ourselves but to worship the Triune God, Father, Son, and Spirit through the ordinary means of grace—reading and preaching the Bible, prayer, singing, and the sacraments.
Hope for you and your family.
You don't need a perfect life to come to church.
You don't need to fix yourself up before walking in.
You don't need to pretend.
The resurrection of Jesus is for strugglers, skeptics, seekers, and sinners—and yes, even for parents just trying to hold it together.
If you're carrying guilt, grief, or questions… come.
If you're weary of shallow answers… come.
If you're longing for hope that holds... come.
There's a Savior who died for the sins of His people, rose for our justification, and lives to intercede for all who trust in Him.
And we want to introduce you to Him!
