Last Sunday, we reopened our "That's NOT What That Means" investigation for a BONUS CASE involving Matthew 5:39. We began examining the passage, its context, and the assumptions that have shaped how Christians understand this instruction. But...we didn't finish!

In PART ONE of our BONUS CASE, we confront our appetite for retaliation, and address a particularly serious issue...the ways Scripture has been misused to excuse abuse, silence victims, and protect those responsible for causing harm. And with October being Domestic Violence Awareness Month, this is a conversation the Church cannot afford to mishandle.

We started examining Matthew 5:39 on Sunday, and there's more to cover.

When Jesus said, “Turn the other cheek,” what was He addressing in the first place? Because before we decide how a command applies to somebody's situation, we ought to understand the situation Jesus was actually speaking about.

And we've still got more ground to cover!
