Congregations and their members are navigating profound upheaval in these times, and I am continually inspired by the creativity and care with which Unitarian Universalists carry out life-saving ministries in diverse communities and contexts. The heart of Unitarian Universalism lives in congregations and communities – in the lay leaders, musicians, religious educators, ministers, and all who gather together week after week. It is an honor and privilege for the UUA to support that vital work.

Our living tradition will outlast these painful times, beloveds. Just as our religious forbears have done across the centuries, we will be shaped by what is happening in our wider world, but we will not be defeated. We will continue to invite all people of good will, who would live their lives by a set of shared values, to join us in dreaming the world anew. We will freely embrace our covenantal tradition and move together to center justice, reason, and love in our spiritual living.

Please join our all ages backpack blessing on Sunday, August 16th during our Sunday Service at 10:30 am as we celebrate the many paths our community walks together. Please bring a bag that is part of your everyday life, old or new. There is no "right" bag—it simply needs to be meaningful to you.

We hope you'll join us for this joyful ritual as we send one another into the year with love, courage, and blessings for the journey ahead.

(Note: This is NOT a Backpack Drive. It is a blessing of the backpacks we use on our journey - student’s bookbags, the professional’s briefcase, your laptop case, and all in between.)

These days understandably cause fear and distress for so many beloveds. Fear for individual safety and wellbeing, and for the safety of our families and communities runs deep for many right now.

Please know that as Unitarian Universalists, we will not forsake you. The deep theological roots of our faith, going back to transcendentalists in early U.S. history and inspired by nonviolent resistance around the world, call us to resist unjust laws and refuse to cooperate with oppression. The very symbol of our faith – the flaming chalice – originated as an offering of hope and refuge to all who seek to live freely. We will continue to show up for our communities, demand justice of our leaders, and work together to protect the basic human rights that each one of us deserves.

Ours is a faith of courage, of resilience, and of moral witness. The time to protect our communities and our democracy is now. Holding fast to one another, we will meet this moment courageously, together.

Today, the Unitarian Universalist Association calls for an end to the war in Iran in a letter to President Trump and other U.S. leaders.

The letter names this military action as a violation of our deepest commitments and warns that it threatens religious liberty. It also makes clear that this “illegal and destructive use of military force cannot be justified on the grounds of human rights,” and puts Iranian people at further risk of harm.

Grounded in a generations-long witness for religious pluralism, the UUA affirms that many people of faith oppose imperialist aims masquerading as religious commitments.

UU leaders are also inviting others to join them—add your name to the public letter.
