Hi First Pres friends,
If anyone is interested in short term or longer term community commitments in this new year, I am passing along opportunities from Isaiah 58 ministries in south St. Louis city, where Bill and I volunteer weekly. Please feel free to forward to others who might be interested (circles, book clubs?). The contact person, if interested in learning more, is Rev. Meredith Jackson:

Lunch and Learn Chefs - We are looking for folks willing to provide a simple lunch for our lunch and learn gatherings for guests. We try to provide a healthy meal for 15. Past meals have included: soup, grilled cheese, and salad; lasagna, salad, and garlic bread; chicken casserole, salad, and bread.
Future dates are February 18, March 18, April 15 and May 20. Lunch is served at 11am. If you are interested in helping provide lunch, please contact [email protected].

We are seeking an Alzheimer's Association Faith Ambassador for Isaiah 58 Ministries.
This position will receive support through the Alzheimer's Association, including online training, resource support, and connection. In response, we are looking for someone to bring memory loss issues to the forefront for our guests and volunteers. In particular, we envision this position writing brief quarterly newsletter articles, helping coordinate volunteer trainings, being present at guest educational opportunities, and generally being a resource for issues around memory loss. You do not need experience for this role. The Alzheimer's Association will give you the training and support that you need. We simply need someone to be a champion for this issue here at Isaiah 58 Ministries. Interested? Please talk to Meredith.

Habitat for Humanity Build Team
Are you interested in spending a Saturday working on a house for Habitat for Humanity? Let's see if we can field an Isaiah 58 Ministries build team! We are looking for 5-10 people who are interested in climbing ladders, hammering things, painting, and other house-building tasks. The house is in St Louis City, and the Saturday time commitment is 7:30am-3:30pm. If you are interested, please reply to Meredith and tell her which of these days would work for you: March 7, April 11, May 16.

Know we each have our community commitments. Forwarding for your consideration.
Many thanks,

Blanket & Clothing Drive

Winter Outreach is a coalition of Saint Louis city churches that provides a warm place to stay for unhoused persons on nights when the temperature falls below 25 degrees. As we did last year, we are working with the Saint Louis Mennonite Fellowship to help provide donations of blankets and winter clothing. You can place your donations in the box opposite the church lounge.

What’s Needed:

Gently used or new winter blankets
Twin or full size only
No king or queen size blankets
No knit or crocheted blankets
Blankets should be easily washable
New or gently-used winter clothing, jackets, etc.
Men's or women's sweat pants are a particular need.

Place your donations in the large box opposite the door to the church lounge.

A Taste of Advent Food Drive

The first Sunday of Advent is this weekend! We invite you to participate in “A Taste of Advent”. This is a fun, family mission opportunity that serves our neighbors by collecting the designated items for each day of Advent, and bringing them to church each Sunday, including Christmas Eve. The food collected will be split between Kirk Care and our own Little Food Pantry. If you did not receive a copy last week, you can pick one up at the Welcome Desk.

Georgina is organizing First Pres volunteers for the last few shifts of The People's Response tornado relief.

From the organization: "For the past six weeks, your commitment has powered the People’s Response Hub. You showed up with heart, with hands, and with hope — and because of you, thousands of families across North City received the care and support they needed after the storm.
As we prepare to close out operations at the hub, we have two final opportunities for you to support this week:

Hub Close-Out & Move – Monday

We’re breaking down and moving supplies from the Kingdom Church. We need help packing, lifting, organizing, and transporting items as we sunset operations.

Relief Dash Deliveries – Tuesday & Wednesday
We still have families waiting on supplies. Help us complete our final rounds of door-to-door deliveries to make sure no one is left behind.

From Georgina: "Good morning everyone. If you are interested in volunteering, we will be going on Wednesday, July 2. We will meet in the church parking lot at 10:00 AM. There are two shifts, from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM, and 1:00 PM-3:00 PM. You can sign up for one, or both, shifts. I signed up for both shifts.
If you are interested in volunteering , please sign up using the link in the attached email.
If you plan to meet us in the church parking lot at 10:00 AM, please let me know. Hope to see you there."

Extend & Needs Your Help!

Hi friend,

Thank you to everyone who has already stepped up to support our neighbors in North St. Louis in the wake of the recent tornadoes. Because of you, thousands of families have received supplies, care, and stability during this critical time.

As we enter the final days of our extended relief operations this week, we’re reaching out once more to ask for your help. We still have urgent volunteer needs at both of our Northside hubs:

The People’s Response Hub at O’Fallon Park Recreation Center (Hours of operation: Sunday 6/1 | 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., Monday 6/2 | CLOSED, Tuesday - Friday 6/3-6/6 | 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.)

The 4theVille Emergency Hub at 4144 Dr. Martin Luther King Drive (Hours of operation: Daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed Sunday, June 1)
Whether you can give a few hours or a full day, your time will go directly toward getting supplies to families, supporting home stabilization, and helping neighbors navigate the uncertainty that follows a disaster.

💛 If you can join us, please sign up for a shift here: VOLUNTEER

We’re still building the long-term recovery plan North City deserves. Until that’s fully in place, we’re standing in the gap—and we can’t do it without you.

If you’re back at work and can’t give your time please consider donating the following items:

Deodorant
Lotion
Antibiotic ointment
Band-Aids
Small laundry detergent
Small dish soaps

Important note about volunteering in North St. Louis. If FEMA decides to grant funds for rebuilding, they will require a percentage match from the city. Volunteer hours count toward that match. By registering to volunteer and checking in when you get there, instead of showing up on your own independently, you can be sure your time will count toward that all-important match.
