Few pains cut as deeply as watching your child walk away from God. You can endure financial hardship, health battles, and personal disappointments, but when it comes to your children, the burden feels different. You remember the prayers you prayed over them. You remember dedicating them to the Lord. You remember teaching them about Jesus. And now you find yourself lying awake at night wondering where they are, what they are doing, and whether they will ever come back. If that is where you are today, Jesus sees every tear you have cried.
There is something about a parent’s heart that never stops loving. No matter how old your child becomes, they are still your child. Even when they make decisions you do not understand, your heart continues reaching for them. That relentless love you feel is only a glimpse of the Father’s love for them. The truth is that God loves your child even more than you do.
One of the greatest fears you can face is believing that your child’s story is already written. The enemy wants you to look at their current situation and conclude that all hope is lost. He wants you to believe that because they are far from God today, they will always be far from God. But Jesus has never been intimidated by distance. He has been pursuing lost sons and daughters since the beginning.
Luke 19:10 says, “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” Notice that Jesus did not come only for those who already had everything together. He came for the lost. He came for the wandering. He came for those who have taken wrong turns. If your child is lost, they are exactly the kind of person Jesus specializes in finding.
You may be looking at years of rebellion, addiction, anger, unbelief, or broken choices. Jesus sees something deeper. He sees someone He created. He sees someone He died for. He sees someone whose name was on His heart when He carried the cross. Long before your child ever made a mistake, Jesus had already made provision for their redemption.
The beautiful thing about grace is that it can reach places you cannot. There may be conversations you cannot have. There may be doors that are closed to you. There may be situations completely outside your control. But there is no place where the grace of God cannot go. No city is too far. No addiction is too strong. No deception is too deep. No darkness is too great for the light of Christ.
The Greek word “sozo” means to save, rescue, heal, and deliver. This is the work of Jesus. He does not merely improve lives. He rescues people. The same Jesus who called Lazarus out of a tomb can call your child out of spiritual darkness. The same Jesus who restored Peter after failure can restore your son or daughter. Nothing is impossible for Him.
Perhaps the hardest part is waiting. You pray and nothing seems to change. You believe and still do not see results. You wonder if God hears you. But every prayer offered in faith is heard by your Father. Every tear matters to Him. Every cry from your heart rises before His throne. Your prayers are not wasted because your Father is attentive to every word.
Isaiah 49:16 says, “Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands.” If God has not forgotten you, He certainly has not forgotten your children. The hands that bear the scars of Calvary are a reminder that His love is active, intentional, and relentless. Jesus is not casually aware of your family. He is deeply invested in them.
You may feel powerless, but Jesus is not powerless. You may not know what to do next, but Jesus knows exactly where your child is today. He knows what they are thinking. He knows what they are searching for. He knows the wounds they carry. He knows the emptiness they are trying to fill. And He knows how to reach them in ways nobody else can.
One day you may look back and discover that while you thought nothing was happening, God was working behind the scenes the entire time. The seeds you planted were not dead. The prayers you prayed were not forgotten. The truth you taught them was not wasted. God’s timing is often different from yours, but His faithfulness never fails.
So do not give up hope. Do not surrender to fear. Do not let today’s circumstances convince you that tomorrow cannot be different. Put your eyes on Jesus. Your hope is not in your ability to save your child. Your hope is in the Savior who leaves the ninety-nine to pursue the one. The same Jesus who found you knows exactly where your child is today. His love is greater than their wandering, His grace is deeper than their mistakes, and His arms are still open. Keep believing. Keep praying. Keep trusting. The story is not over because Jesus is still writing it.
