Morning meditation 🙏🏾
6 Go to the ant, you slacker!
Observe its ways and become wise.
7 Without leader, administrator, or ruler,
8 it prepares its provisions in summer;
it gathers its food during harvest.
9 How long will you stay in bed, you slacker?
When will you get up from your sleep?
10 A little sleep, a little slumber,
a little folding of the arms to rest,
11 and your poverty will come like a robber,
your need, like a bandit.
– Proverbs 6:6-11
The writer of Proverbs points us to one of the smallest creatures in creation to teach one of life’s biggest lessons: discipline, diligence, and preparation.
The ant doesn’t need someone standing over it. It doesn’t wait for motivation. It doesn’t need constant reminders. It simply does what needs to be done while the opportunity is available.
Solomon is not condemning rest; he’s warning against a lifestyle of laziness and procrastination. The ant understands that summer is the season for gathering and harvest is the season for preparation. If it wastes the season, it suffers later.
How many opportunities, dreams, ministries, businesses, and relationships have been lost because we kept saying, “I’ll do it tomorrow”?
The warning is clear: “A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the arms to rest…” The danger isn’t usually one big decision, it’s the accumulation of small delays, small excuses, and small acts of neglect.
God has given each of us a season to work, grow, serve, learn, and prepare. Wisdom recognizes the season and acts accordingly.
Today, take a lesson from the ant:
Be self-motivated.
Be faithful in small things.
Prepare for tomorrow while you have the opportunity today.
Don’t let comfort rob you of your calling.
The ant may be small, but its lesson is huge: Wise people prepare. Lazy people postpone.
