TODAY is the 75th National Day of Prayer. We encourage everyone to read this article explaining the historical and current events of today, and echo the question, "What will you pray over our country today?"
Tomorrow, millions of Americans will pause at the same moment to do one thing together.
Thursday, May 7, 2026, marks the 75th annual National Day of Prayer, with the theme “Glorify God Among the Nations, Seeking Him in All Generations,” drawn from 1 Chronicles 16:24. Tens of thousands of prayer gatherings are scheduled across all 50 states, U.S. territories, and Washington, D.C., culminating in a 90-minute virtual prayer service broadcast live from Statuary Hall in the U.S. Capitol at 8 p.m. EDT. The event will air on CBN, Salem Radio, and a number of other networks.
The tradition traces back to February 1952, when evangelist Billy Graham stood on the steps of the U.S. Capitol and challenged Congress to set aside one day each year for the nation to turn to God in prayer. Within months, Congress passed the joint resolution and President Harry S. Truman signed it into law. Three quarters of a century later, the call has only grown louder. National Day of Prayer Task Force President Kathy Branzell describes the 2026 theme as a call away from elevating self and toward magnifying God alone, adding that every true move of God in history has been preceded by an outpouring of fervent, repentant prayer.
This year carries added weight as America moves toward the 250th anniversary of its founding. The country was born in prayer, sustained through prayer, and revived in every generation through the prayers of ordinary believers who refused to give up on a nation God had blessed. The next chapter of America will not be written in Washington. It will be written on the knees of the people.
“Tell of His glory among the nations, His wonderful deeds among all the peoples.” — 1 Chronicles 16:24
A nation that prays together does not fall apart easily. Wherever you are tomorrow, take a moment, lift your eyes, and remember the God who is still seated on the throne. He has heard every prayer ever whispered for this country, and He is not finished with America yet.
What will you be praying over our country tomorrow on the 75th National Day of Prayer?
