Cople Episcopal Parish Welcomes the Reverend Kristen J. Farrington
In January 2023, the Reverend Kristen J. Farrington joined Cople Episcopal Parish as Priest-in-Charge. She oversees the activities and spiritual life that revolves around the three historic churches in Cople Parish: Nomini Church on Cople Highway, Saint James Church in Tidwells, and Yeocomico Church in Kinsale.
Ordained in 2006, the Rev. Farrington has served in many roles in the Episcopal schools in Maryland and Virginia. In those roles as chaplain, faculty member, advisor, and administrator of Chapel, she acquired many skills and much experience to share with Cople Parish and the Northern Neck. At The Cathedral of the Incarnation in Baltimore, as a volunteer priest, she was known to give thoughtful sermons and regularly celebrated Holy Eucharist. In addition to those roles, as she supported her family in various moves around the world, she gained valuable experience in administration and policy work at the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change in London, The Faith and Politics Institute and the Religious Freedom Center in Washington, D.C.
Her academic preparation includes the following: Bachelor of Arts, Religious Studies, and German, College of Wooster (1989); German, University of Freiburg (1987-88); Master of Divinity, Theology, Yale Divinity School (1994); Bexley Hall Seminary (2003), Mediation Training, Baltimore Mediation (2010).
Rev. Farrington's husband, Lt. Col. Shawn Farrington, USMC, Ret., in addition to serving more than 20 years active duty in the Marine Corps, including two tours in Iraq, has spent the past 14 years serving as a civilian in the Department of Defense at the Pentagon. He is ready to retire from that life and return in some form to his educational roots in marine biology and is most interested in the opportunities the Northern Neck might offer in that regard.
The Farrington’s are delighted to relocate to the Norther Neck and eagerly anticipate the joys of living in a rural area.
