Trinity Psalter Hymnal 277, “Before the Throne of God Above,” directs our hearts to Christ, our living and perfect High Priest. The believer’s assurance does not rest on steady feelings or flawless obedience, but on the Savior whose righteousness is perfect and who continually intercedes for his people. Because Christ represents us before the Father, those who draw near to God through him are saved to the uttermost. Our hope is as secure as the Priest who never dies and whose saving work never fails.

A new week often brings unfinished work, new burdens, and fresh reminders of our weakness. Yet believers do not approach God alone. Jesus Christ, our risen and living High Priest, continually intercedes for his people.

Our confidence rests not in the strength of our prayers or the steadiness of our faith, but in the perfect and continuing ministry of Christ. Therefore, come to God through him with repentance, trust, and hope. The Savior who died for his people also lives to plead for them.

The Lord’s Day is not an interruption to the week, but a gracious gift. God gathers his people to hear his Word, call upon his name, sing his praise, and receive the signs and seals of his covenant grace. We come not because our week has been perfect, but because Christ is our perfect righteousness and our only hope.

“For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere” (Psalm 84:10 ESV).

Hymn 216, “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty,” calls us to adore the King of creation. Our praise does not rest on changing circumstances, but on the Lord’s steadfast goodness and saving mercy. In Jesus Christ, God has forgiven his people, clothed us in Christ’s righteousness, and gathered us to worship him with grateful hearts.

Tomorrow, as we sing together, we answer the summons of Psalm 103: “Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name!” (Psalm 103:1 ESV)

As the Lord’s Day approaches, we remember that our rest is not found merely in a quiet schedule, but in Jesus Christ and the grace he gives through his appointed means.

Tomorrow, God calls his people together to hear his Word, pray, sing praise, and worship him with reverence and joy. “This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” — Psalm 118:24, ESV

Tomorrow, we do not gather to attend a service or observe something taking place in the room. We gather because God calls his covenant people into his presence.

In public worship, God communes with his people, and they with him, in a manner which expresses the close relationships of the Father and his redeemed children, of the Son and his beloved bride, and of the Holy Spirit and the living temple in which he dwells.

As we prepare for the Lord’s Day, let us come with reverence, gratitude, and expectant hearts.

“Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.”

Some burdens remain hidden from everyone around us, but none are hidden from the Lord. Psalm 55 does not teach us to pretend that trouble is small. It teaches us where to bring it. We may cast our burdens upon God because he is faithful to sustain his people. In Christ, we have a faithful High Priest who invites us to draw near to the throne of grace for mercy and help. As this week closes, let us bring our anxieties, griefs, and needs before the Lord in prayer—and rest in his steadfast care.

Hymn 474, “If Thou But Suffer God to Guide Thee,” gives voice to quiet confidence in the Lord’s providence. Faith does not require us to understand every turn of the path. It rests in the wisdom and goodness of our Father, who upholds and governs all things. In Christ, believers may wait, pray, and walk forward with hope, knowing that God’s purposes are wise and his promises cannot fail.

Peace with God is not the reward for finally becoming good enough. It is the gracious result of justification: God pardons sinners and accepts them as righteous solely because of Christ’s righteousness, received by faith alone. Because Jesus obeyed in our place and bore the judgment our sins deserved, everyone united to him has a settled peace with God—not a fragile truce dependent on today’s performance. The believer’s assurance rests outside of himself, in the finished work of our Lord Jesus Christ.
