Zion and St. John's Lutheran Churches

Zion and St. John's Lutheran Churches Zion and St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Churches gather to hear, study, learn, teach and share the gospel. Jesus is the way, the truth, the life.

Lutheran Churches are members of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod. We have been serving the people of the Kingston/Salemville area since the 1800s. The word evangelical means "centered on the gospel." The gospel is the good news that Jesus, the Son of God born a real man, lived a life of perfect obedience to God's law in our place, died on the cross as the all sufficient sacrifice for the

sins of the whole world and bodily rose back to life on the third day as the sure guarantee that all our sins have been forgiven. We call ourselves an "Evangelical" church - that is an "all about the gospel" church - to remind ourselves that , "we are not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes" (Romans 1:16). By identifying ourselves as Lutheran we are saying something about our Scriptural position. Perhaps the three phases that have come to be identified with the Lutheran church are: Grace alone, Faith alone, Scripture alone, "For it is by grace that you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast" (Ephesians 2:8,9). This good news that God has saved us by grace alone through faith alone in Jesus is revealed to us in the Scriptures alone. In the Bible a church is not a fancy building but a group of believers gathered around the gospel in Word and Sacraments. As we gather to hear, study, learn, teach and share the gospel the Holy Spirit is strengthening our faith and keeping us close to Jesus. As we hear God's Word and receive God's Sacraments, the Holy Spirit makes us all the more sure of God's love, forgiveness, and promise of eternal life and so also makes us all the more eager to live for and share our Savior until we live with him forever in heaven.

'Hosanna to the Son of David!' 'Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!' 'Hosanna in the highest heaven!'"

A blessed Palm Sunday to everyone!
May Jesus' peace rest upon you!

Ride on, ride on in majesty!
Hear all the tribes hosanna cry;
O Savior meek, pursue Your road
with palms and scattered garments strowed.

Ride on, ride on in majesty!
In lowly pomp ride on to die.
O Christ, Your triumphs now begin
o’er captive death and conquered sin.

Ride on, ride on in majesty!
The host of angels in the sky
look down with sad and wond'ring eyes
to see th'approaching Sacrifice.

Ride on, ride on in majesty!
Your last and fiercest strife is nigh.
The Father on His sapphire throne
awaits His own anointed Son.

Ride on, ride on in majesty!
In lowly pomp ride on to die,
bow Your meek head to mortal pain,
then take, O Christ, Your pow'r and reign.

Jesus Is Born : Luke Chapter 2
In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. 2 This was the first census taken while Quirinius was governing Syria. 3 And everyone went to register, each to his own town. 4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the town of Nazareth, into Judea, to the town of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was from the house and family line of David. 5 He went to be registered with Mary, his wife, who was pledged to him in marriage and was expecting a child.

6 And so it was that while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. 7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son, wrapped him in swaddling cloths, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

8 There were in the same country shepherds staying out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified! 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. For behold, I bring you good news of great joy, which will be for all people: 11 Today in the town of David, a Savior was born for you. He is Christ[b] the Lord. 12 And this will be a sign for you: You will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 Suddenly, there was with the angel a multitude from the heavenly army, praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward mankind.”

15 When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Now let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” 16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they told others the message they had been told about this child. 18 And all who heard it were amazed by what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart. 20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

The Gospel of the Lord.
Praise be to you O Christ.
