I’m really looking forward to my conversation with WAMC Northeast Public Radio’s Joe C Donahue on Wednesday night (at ). We’ll be talking about how Cabinet of Wonder began in nearby Troy, NY, where I volunteered to teach Head Start preschoolers music and poetry for 3 years.

Happy September 1! Every FIRST of the month we’re all invited to recommit to PEACE and explore one vital aspect. TONIGHT: women and violence / women FOR peace

This Tuesday, September 1st from 5-7 pm, join us for a celebration of the opening of our first monthly rotating exhibition: WOMEN & VIOLENCE, WOMEN FOR PEACE

The exhibit will run through the month during normal operating hours. A bit more about what it covers:

“This exhibit explores the ways in which gender inequality has been shaped by historical, cultural, political, and religious systems, and how these structures continue to influence women’s lives today. From the roots of patriarchy and the war system to gender based violence, domestic abuse, the limiting of women’s rights, and the experiences of women during conflict, this exhibition examines the many forms violence can take.”

Be the first to see it and hear more about it from the people who put it together on September 1st!

Our neighbors are being disappeared in targeted actions that are quickly dispersed. Mostly this happens without a big splash like this incident. Most of us have no idea what the human impact is. It’s HORRIFIC. And it happens all around us.

A day after an ICE raid in Eddyville resulted in two individuals fleeing over an embankment and a third being apprehended, the Kingston immigrant community and its allies were left reeling with uncertainty and fear.

People’s Place, a Midtown center serving the needy and that has a food pantry, has kicked off a 24-hour-a-day food locker initiative at its St. James Street headquarters.

From a distance, it’ll look like a ribbon of light stretching across the sky. Up close, it’s something far more personal. ✨
This Friday, nearly 2,000 luminaries will glow along the Walkway Over the Hudson — and every single one carries a name. A person. A memory. Someone’s favorite song, their terrible dishwasher-loading opinions, the way they laughed.
Lights Across the Hudson returns for its second year, benefiting the Hudson Valley Hospice Foundation — and you don’t need any connection to hospice care to be moved by it.
We’ve got the full story, plus what you need to know before you go (parking tips, ticketing info, and one important reminder about cash 👀).
