LIVE Gazan Flotilla participants—talking about their detention in Israel… Two MidHudson among 540 participants, in more than 50 boats, (would have been 76 boats before a prior interception near Crete by Israel and the Greek coast guard), from 37 nations in Northern Africa and Europe, intercepted 55 miles outside Israeli waters, SOS calls were not heeded by numerous countries. Beatings, kicked, tazed, hit with riot rubber bullets made in the US, American-made prison ships, sexual assault… US government has threatened to ‘de-bank’ the flotilla team and individual members. Following the powerful film ‘Samidoun’ directed by a Palestianian woman bearing witness to the leadership of women in Palestine. Samidoun means RESILIENCE, which they did not choose to be but choose to be now. Running out of chairs! 🪑 a GOOD problem… Our local coalition gathers monthly to LISTEN TO PALESTINIANS🍉🍉🍉

At Old Dutch Church, our history is both rooted in slavery and then later as fighters to end slavery during the Civil War. Our Christian leaders were enslavers who defied the core gospel command to love one another. Transformation begins in wondering: “How could this horrific travesty happen here?” Man’s utter inhumanity to man continues today, our worst vices disguised as law-abiding virtue! We consider Black Fourth of July to be one of the most important events we will host in this sesquicentennial season. EVERYONE is invited to weep and wonder about the past and dream about a future free of cruelty where all people thrive together!

Kingston, the Old Dutch Church and Harambee will host a free Black Fourth of July Commemoration “250 Years of America’s Voices: Black Fourth of July Commemoration on July 7, 2026, at Old Dutch Church from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

🥳 Congrats to Grand Marshall Maria Espinal, true Hudson Valley shero!!!

We're so excited to announce our Grand Marshal for this year's Hudson Valley Pride March!

A little bit about Maria:
Maria Espinal (she/her, they/them) is a bisexual Latin activist whose work spans LGBTQIA+, immigrant, labor, and human rights. She lives in Catskill, NY with her spouse, Rebecca, and is a proud mother and grandmother. Maria has been a trailblazer throughout her life—though, as she puts it, not always doing things gracefully. Born in the Dominican Republic and raised in New York City in a conservative religious household, she had to carve her own path toward becoming a bold, self-confident q***r Latina in a world that expected her to remain silent. At 17, she rejected those expectations and chose a different future.

As the world faced rising authoritarianism and increasing threats to vulnerable communities, Maria began volunteering with the Ulster Immigrant Defense Network (UIDN), where she now serves as a case manager. Through her work, she helps immigrants in Ulster County access resources to live with dignity and safety. This role brings together all the causes she cares about—LGBTQIA+ rights, women’s rights, workers’ rights, and immigrant justice. Recent cases have highlighted for her the urgent intersection of immigrant rights and the escalating attacks on LGBTQIA+ communities both here and abroad. She is proud to support LGBTQIA+ asylum seekers in the County as they seek legal and emotional support after fleeing persecution. Maria believes deeply in the promise of the United States as a place of safety and dignity, even in the face of ongoing challenges to those ideals. Her hope is that we continue the work of ensuring this country lives up to that promise for all. Maria serves as Grand Marshal of the Hudson Valley Pride March in recognition of the work of the Ulster Immigrant Defense Network and the shared commitment to justice, dignity, and protection for all communities.
