Our neighbors, the West Genoa Cemetery Association, will be celebrating a rededication of the soldier's monument immediately following the Five Corners Grange/Genoa Historical Association Memorial Day Annual Observance.
While the cemetery is not associated directly with our church, we share a boundary and long history with it. In 1810, a plot was selected and surveyed to serve as a local burying ground. Bodies from other locations were moved to it at that time. In May of 1864, a meeting was held for the purpose of organizing a cemetery association, with one of the purposes of the organization being to select new grounds for a cemetery or to enlarge the old burying grounds by purchase of adjoining land (which was ultimately done). In August of 1865 the West Genoa Cemetery Association was incorporated, and has been in continuous operation since then.
The Civil War Soldier Monument was erected in 1882 in by the King Ferry Veterans Association in memory of their fallen comrades, those injured or killed in action during the conflict.

To the left of the church in the front west lawn you will see a veteran’s monument. The monument was donated and is maintained by the Five Corners Grange, and is the site of the annual Town of Genoa Memorial Day Observance every year in May.
The white granite monument was purchased for $350 and was dedicated on Memorial Day, 1968. Following a ceremony at the monument, flags were placed on veterans’ graves and Taps played at the West Genoa Cemetery and at also Our Lady of the Lake Cemetery.
This monument was purchased to replace a damaged wooden and glass structure bearing stars with local servicemen’s names. Peter Signor has built a duplicate of that original wooden structure which he maintains in the village of Genoa.
