Kimberly Church of Christ We are a congregation of Christians meeting in Kimberly, Alabama

For those who do not know, the Kimberly church of Christ no longer meets and works together as a group. We are grateful to all who have visited and encouraged us during our time together, and our fellowship with each other continues even as we worship with different churches around the area.

There are a number of lessons we can draw from the battle between David and Goliath - sometimes we draw the wrong ones! David understood that the battle wasn't about his skill, his personal glory, or his identity as a champion. It was about God who gave him strength, God who demanded to be honored, and God who would ultimately raise up a redeemer through him.

Sunday's morning lesson: One of the most powerful statements in the Bible is the phrase "But God." It is used less often than you might think, but in each case, we see how our preconceptions, our plans, our desires - and even our failures - are overshadowed by God's power and will.

This Sunday's morning lesson, which got cut off in mid broadcast:

In coming back from Israel, the first thing I wanted to talk about was olives and olive trees. Why? Because like so many blessings that God surrounds us with, they had something to teach Israel about their God, and about their coming messiah. And they have a lesson for us as well!

Sunday's second lesson as we continue our discussion of the 10 Commandments with no. 4: Remember the Sabbath. We know that the Sabbath was a commandment given to Israel, not bound on the church when Jesus established his new covenant. But the day still teaches us some important principles about work, rest, and worship.

Sunday's first lesson, as we talk about the idea of objective truth - how it was personified in Jesus Christ, and how the world put truth on trial, finding various reasons to deny that Jesus was the son of God, and that everything he said was true.

Our second lesson from Sunday, as we talk about implications of the resurrection of Christ, and the promise that he will return to raise us up to an eternal reward. But how eagerly are we waiting for that day? Are we actually hoping it will be delayed until we can accomplish something in this life or enjoy some other experience before our time on this world ends?

Our early lesson from this Sunday: What is our hope in the resurrection of Jesus? It is through the resurrection that our atonement by Jesus' sacrifice takes on any meaning, because it means that death no longer has to be the end. We are promised a bodily resurrection, given a body that is eternal and capable of bringing us into the presence of God.

Our lessons today will center around the resurrection of Jesus - but more specifically what that resurrection means to me! Where is our hope in this life if Christ is not raised? And are we truly waiting with eagerness for the day our Lord returns for us?

Join us beginning shortly after 9 a.m. for worship, prayer, singing, and study of God's word.

“For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures” - 1 Corinthians 15:3-4

Jesus’ resurrection is of “first importance” to the people of God and to all the world. Why? It’s not just that Jesus rose, but that in rising, Jesus paved the way for us to rise as well. The great promise of Jesus’ resurrection is that we too can hope to rise from the grave and join our Lord in an eternal heavenly kingdom.

This Sunday we’ll be talking about what the resurrection means to us today. How strong is my own hope in the resurrection? And how important is it to me that not only will Jesus come again, but that he could come today? Does that thought fill me with joy? Fear? Indifference?

Join us with your bibles at 9 a.m. and again at 10 a.m. as we study the gospel of Jesus Christ and our living hope in him!

“Even so, come Lord Jesus.”
