Our Saddleback family unexpectedly lost a giant of the faith this morning.
Pastor John Baker served at Saddleback Church for decades — as a volunteer, on staff, as a pastor, and eventually as an elder. He co-founded Celebrate Recovery®, a ministry that has helped millions of people around the world heal from their hurts, habits, and hang-ups. His global impact for God’s kingdom is immeasurable.
We ask that you please keep his wife, Cheryl, their children, Johnny and Jeni Baker, and Laura and Brian Gibney, and all their grandkids in your prayers.

Love Hurts!

Sometimes.

Just ask Jesus about it. He endured an unimaginable amount of pain when He made atonement for all our sins.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. Hebrews 12:1-3

Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. John 15:13

But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

Love is the way to freedom. When I take my focus off the hurt, off the deep betrayal, off the sins on both sides; love can start to take deeper root and facilitate deeper healing in Christ Jesus.

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. 1 Peter 4:8

Do everything in love. 1 Corinthians 16:14

Thank you for your love Lord!

Dear Heavenly Father,

As I begin this new year 2021, I ask that You will create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me. Psalm 51:10

I pray that Your Holy Spirit will sow into me the seeds of Your love and presence.

Lord, may You be the Gardener of my soul throughout this new year, weeding away all selfish and sinful ways in me.

Please uproot that which is not of You in my life; filling my spirit with light and hope; nourishing me with Your love and Your Word.

You are the God who carries out good things to completion.

I pray that this Year, my life will be marked by the Fruit of Your Holy Spirit...

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering (patience), kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.
Against such there is no law.
Galatians 5:22-23

Lord, use my life to exhibit Your love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control throughout this new year.

Please help me to be a good steward of the spiritual gifts which You have given to me, so that I may use my spiritual gifts to bless others and to serve my church.

I know that I would not believe the things that You will accomplish this new year, even if You told me. Open my eyes so that I can watch and be amazed by Your great faithfulness. Habakkuk 1:5

In Jesus' Holy Name I pray,

Amen.
May 2021 Be Your BEST year yet!

The raging storm inside

Anxiety has been with me a long time. A constant battle between my fears and my faith and trust in God. Here are some verses I review when the walls of my angst are closing in on me.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. Psalm 23:4

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. Isaiah 43:2

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7

So don’t be anxious about tomorrow. God will take care of your tomorrow too. Live one day at a time. Matthew 6:34 (TLB)

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isiah 41:10

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. Philippians 4:6

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”. Jeremiah 29:11

Praise God!

Celebrate Recovery is a biblical and balanced program that helps us overcome our hurts, hang-ups, and habits. It is based on the actual words of Jesus rather than psychological theory. 20 years ago, Saddleback Church launched Celebrate Recovery with 43 people. It was designed as a program to help those struggling with hurts, habits and hang-ups by showing them the loving power of Jesus Christ through a recovery process. Celebrate Recovery has helped more than 27000 people at Saddleback, attracting over 70% of its members from outside the church. Eighty-five percent of the people who go through the program stay with the church and nearly half serve as church volunteers.

Celebrate Recovery is now in over 27,000 churches worldwide!

Hello my CR family. CR continues to try to give you all the support, love and resources it always has. And though we as a family have always lifted each other up in prayer, we would like to ask you to join in a more personal prayer ministry that, through Christ, we can pray for individual specific needs. We never expected to be cut off from our churches, jobs, family, and activities as we are experiencing now. But make no mistake, none of this caught our Lord off guard. He was before all this, He is in the mist of this, and He has already seen the end. We fear, we hurt, we are anxious, we question, and we ask why? And to some our faith is being deeply tested. But one thing we do know. We trust in the Creator of the universe.
I want to send prayers to you from God’s Word as I believe He steers me toward. But let me tell you this. I am not computer savvy at all (yet). I have lost this page twice before but I think I may have gotten it this time.
I have had time between trying, to see if this is the passage, I feel I should go with. And I think it is. We all know our Lord’s prayer. Believers and non-believers alike.
Matthew 6:9-13 - Jesus tells us to give reverence to our Father in heaven. To wait with anticipation for His coming again. To pray for His will in heaven to be known and practiced by His children on earth. To give us provisions for today. To forgive those who have harmed us in anyway. To show them mercy as You have shown us mercy. To please keep us from temptations of this weak flesh we live in and from the subtle snares of Satan’s traps.
For it is in Your Kingdom, Your Power and Your Glory alone that we can do this.
Again family, God has all of us in His hands. He is sovereign. AND WE WILL TRUST HIM WITH OUR LIVELIHOODS, OUR FAMILIES AND OURSELVES. AMEN
I will continue to post and pray for all of you This is my e-mail address. [email protected] PLEASE use it to send me your individual prayers. And also, this is Holy Week. Revisit the story of Christ love for you. THE RISEN CHRIST !!!
A side note. We may think The Lord’s Prayer is not lengthy enough, or elaborate enough. But Jesus did say, Pray like this ….

Some of us were raised to ignore pain and heard things like: “Rub some dirt on it!” “That’s just a part of life!” “It’s nothing to cry over!” Others were raised to act like pain doesn’t exist and discussing it will just give our enemy praise.

Unfortunately, ignoring pain will stall your God’s ability to advance our recovery. When we recognize our pain, that allows us to have an honest assessment of our denial. We are then better able to see where we need our savior’s help.

In his book The Road to Freedom, Pastor Johnny Baker talks about his experiences with denial and how he had to face his pain. He goes on to describe how abusing alcohol allowed him to escape some of his hardships. Most of us are the same and avoid that pain.

Pay attention today to areas of your life that are painful. Take them to God and maybe talk about them with a sponsor or an accountability partner. Those areas may be the location of your next breakthrough!

What steps can you take today to move your recovery forward? Perhaps reaching out for accountability? Maybe consider joining with us today in praying for our leaders and our communities? Or you can attend one of the temporary CRCR Online groups while physical groups are hard to come by.

Visit celebraterecovery.com for the latest on when our gatherings may occur and how to handle CR during the COVID crisis.
