Update for our families from the Fuego staff
Camp Fuego Weather Update
Parents, we know that when you are not here on campus, weather alerts can naturally raise questions. So we wanted to give you a simple update from Acadian Baptist Center:
All is well here.
The campus is clear, the roads are passable, and camp is continuing as normal. We had a morning shower that left a few normal puddles, but nothing concerning on campus.
We are aware of the Flood Watch for this area, and we are paying attention to it. Our team is monitoring the weather, staying in communication with the facility, and we will continue making wise decisions if anything changes.
We also want to share something that has been reassuring to us. The highest recorded flooding for the nearest major monitored waterway, Bayou Des Cannes near Eunice, happened on August 15, 2016. Even during that historic flood, no building on campus had any water breach, all roads on campus and adjacent to campus were clear. There were roads that flooded in the area, but at no time was access North, South, East or West prohibited. for certain directions, alternate routes were used, but there was still access to and from all Emergency Services. Keep in mind, that we are also not in an area that has been subject to any flash flooding. We are not in a "hill country." In short, this place is incredibly flat.
Of course, we NEVER ignore weather, and camper safety is always an ongoing focus, but from everything we are seeing right now, we feel very good about conditions here and expect camp to continue safely and normally, though a few activities may be moved indoors.
Thank you for trusting us with your students. We are grateful, and we will keep paying attention so they can keep having a great week at Camp Fuego.
