We hope you all are staying safe and warm, and we look forward to when we can be back together in the House of the Lord!
Exodus 11:7 -
“But among the Israelites it will be so peaceful that not even a dog will bark.”
The context for this verse is: the 10 plagues of Egypt. That is it! That’s the context. In the midst of the 10 plagues of Egypt, and especially the last plague of the death of Egypt's firstborn, we read this verse. In the midst of death, destruction, sorrow, hardship, famine, and the stench of dying frogs, gnats, flies and locusts, we read this verse. And then, in John 14:27, we read about the peace that only Jesus can give. “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give.”
Do you have a dog at home? Every time a dog hears any sort of noise that is out of the ordinary, it barks. Dogs bark at everything and what’s very annoying is they also bark at NOTHING! Absolutely nothing! Dogs bark at their own shadow and the vacuum. They bark when they need to go outside. They bark at the kids playing and at the mailman. Dogs bark out of excitement and frustration with their owners. Dogs never need a reason to bark...they just bark! And, God says that there will be so much peace among His people, the Israelites, that not even a dog will bark!
Peace and quiet is hard to come by some days. Sometimes, there is noise from the world, the tv, radio, text messages, or your phone ringing off the hook. It could be noise of anxiety and Satan trying to lure you away from God. Whatever the noise, it is never too loud for God to silence! He gives us peace! He can give peace so miraculous that even dogs will not bark!
Do you want this kind of peace? I realize peace for the Israelites came from what Moses did. He prayed and asked God to remove the other plagues from Egypt. After each plague, Moses prayed and pleaded with God. Peace only comes from time spent with God! The more time we spend seeking the Lord, the more His peace becomes ours.
