“A CALL TO WORSHIP”
(Psalm 65:1-2 & 66:1 – 20)
Psalm 66 can be divided into two major parts, each with sub-sections:
1. Corporate Praise (vv. 1–12)
a. Call to Worship the Lord (vv. 1–4)
b. Recounting God’s Mighty Works (vv. 5–7)
(Exodus 14:30, 31; Psalm 105:5)
c. Acknowledgment of God's Testing (vv. 8–12)
(Isaiah 48:10; 1 Peter 1:7)
2. Individual Praise (vv. 13–20)
a. Personal Vows and Sacrifices (vv. 13–15)
(Ecclesiastes 5:4)
b. Personal Testimony (vv. 16–17)
c. Reflections on Prayer and God’s Faithfulness (vv. 18–20)
Application:
a) Share your testimony
b) Take your vows seriously – God does!
c) Examine your heart before praying
d) Trust Him with the process of testing/refining you.

(Psalm 62)

Psalm 62 emphasizes trusting God alone as the source of security, salvation, and hope, even amid trials and deceitful attacks.
I. Trust in God Alone (Psalm 62:1-2)
David’s soul waits silently for God, acknowledging Him as the only source of salvation and refuge.
The Hebrew word for “alone” is repeated multiple times, emphasizing God as the sole focus of trust.
God is depicted as a rock, fortress, and salvation, symbolizing steadfastness, protection, and deliverance.
II. Security Tested by Enemies (Psalm 62:3-4)
David describes adversaries who seek to topple him, highlighting human instability and malice.
Despite external threats, he maintains confidence in God’s protection.
The psalm contrasts fleeting human power with God’s eternal security.
III. Reaffirmation of Trust and Exhortation (Psalm 62:5-8)
David exhorts his soul to wait quietly for God, reinforcing the call to patience and spiritual focus.
Trust in God is not only personal but also a testimony to others; believers are encouraged to pour out their hearts in prayer.
God’s power and sovereignty are celebrated, showing that hope and confidence rest in Him alone.
IV. Warning Against Human Pride and Falsehood (Psalm 62:9-12)
Human wealth, power, and deceit are temporary and unreliable.
Believers are called to place their hope in God rather than in worldly things.
God’s justice and reward for those who trust Him are affirmed, encouraging reverent obedience and faithfulness.
